So a lot of you have been over to our house, and you know when you come over we have a crazy dog that will run over to you and jump on you, and border line attack you (its out of love). but she is crazy.
And you know we used to… and still get embarrassed with how excited she gets with new people,
But what is amazing is that this past week she turned one and she is actually starting to get a little civil where a new person can come up and pet her with out getting knocked over.
But at the same time she has this puppy urge and its so funny because you can almost see her fighting the urge to jump on the person
and you can see her go back and forth just fighting it in her head because she is so tempted.
But what is so interesting is that we as people in general often times will face conflict like this in our life, where part of us wants to do one thing and another part of us wants to do something else
And we see this strongly in our relationship with God,
because in life we will face temptations that will draw us away from what God’s will is for us, and sometimes we really are fighting and going back and forth,
where we feel like my dog Tinley
and today in the passage of scripture we are in Paul who is is the author of the book we are in hits this issue right on the head.
and if you were here last week you probably remember Paul was drilling this idea that you cannot save yourself or become a Christian through doing good things.
because you can only save yourself through Jesus Christ and accepting him in your life.
well today Paul is telling us “okay you have accepted Christ into your life now this is what your life should look like.
So we are going to be in today
and Paul really hits on this idea that you have accepted Christ and this is what you can do now.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
So we are going to break this scripture down into three sections and the first section is 8
and really it is almost like Paul is saying now that you know that you are saved through Christ here is a fact that I want you to understand.
and that fact is that we all have two natures.
