THE BIBLICAL ROLE OF A FATHER.
THE BIBLICAL ROLE OF A FATHER.
There is an old saying.
“Anyone can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a dad!”
One day a father was watching his young son play in his sandbox. Someone had place a large roc
I believe that’s TRUE.
Any male can be a father.
Today is Father’s Day, Happy Father’s Day to all you Fathers.
This morning I want to look at fatherhood, but I want to look at it from a Biblical perspective.
What is Fatherhood?
The state of being a father.
The qualities or spirit of a father.
A good father makes all the difference in a life of a child.
I would agree with that statement.
A good Christian father will make all the difference in the world.
Because a father is a pillar of strength, support, and discipline in the life of a child.
Before you can be a good father, you have to be a good husband.
I. Marriage.
I. Marriage.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 1:27-
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis
The intent for marriage is between a man and women.
Adam and Eve
Not, Adam and Steve!
Genesis
God’s plan for marriage is for the husband and wife to work together.
Make decisions together.
The husband is not to be a dictator over his wife.
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Ephesians
Now that we look at how to be a good husband, lets look at fatherhood.
Man has perverted the meaning of fatherhood
Hollywood has destroyed the meaning of fatherhood.
I remember the old television shows from the 50’s, - the 80’s.
My 3 Son’s
Leave it to Beaver
Father Knows Best
Brady Bunch
Family Matters
Family Ties
Those televisions show talked about families, and the father role was respected.
Now all you see are television shows that:
Make fun of the fathers
Make them look stupid
They are nothing, but drunks,
Drug heads
and Losers
That is not God’s intention for the Role of a Biblical Father.
The Role of the Biblical Father.
The Role of the Biblical Father.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs
Teaches his children to appreciate things.
He Leads by example.
Supportive and Loyal.
He teaches his kids lessons.
He protects his family no matter what.
He shows unconditional love.
He forgives
The most important, He teaches his children about Jesus.
A family that goes to church, prays together, studies the Bible together, will stay together.
The problems of whats going on in the world are because, fathers have forgotten what there role is.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Sandbox Story:
One day a father was watching his young son play in his sandbox. Someone had placed a large rock in the middle of the sandbox. The young boy tried to pick it up but it was too heavy.
He tried to roll it but, couldn’t. He even laid on his back and tried to push the rock with his legs, but that didn’t work either.
The father finally walked over to his son. the boy said, “Dad I tried everything and I can’t get this rock out of my sandbox.”
The father replied, “Son, you haven’t tried everything.”
The boy replied, “Dad, I did try everything. I tried to pick it up, I tried to roll it, and I tried to push it and nothing worked.”
The dad bent down and lifted the out of the the sandbox and said, “You see son, you didn’t try everything. You didn’t ask me to help.”
