The Oracle against Babylon - The Battle is the Lord’s

The vision given to Isaiah
Burden against = oracle, pronouncement, prophetic utterance
The target is Babylon
The messenger is Isaiah son of Amoz written 8th century BC
A divine revelation
The commission to Isaiah to make God’s message known
Get their attention, say listen to me who has a message from God
Lift up the banner on a high mountain = carry, take, raise
Make the message plain and clear so all can hear and see
Draw attention to the message, wave a flag
Raise your voice to them = make sure they hear the message of God
Wave your hands = again draw attention to yourself in order that they might come an hear the message of God
The gathering of God’s army
Verse 2
Get their attention, say listen to me who has a message from God
Lift up the banner on a high mountain = carry, take, raise
The rallying point for the Lord’s army
Draw attention to the message, wave a flag
Raise your voice to them = shout so all who were to join the battle might hear
Wave your hands = showing a sense of urgency
Verse 3
Isaiah 13:17 NKJV
“Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, Who will not regard silver; And as for gold, they will not delight in it.

Angelic host or earthly army?
They were God’s sanctified ones, a host set apart to wage war
The army, sanctified ones were gathered at God’s command being set apart for the battle
The army, mighty ones were gathered by God’s call to fulfill God’s anger and ones who find joy in exalting their Creator
My mighty ones for My anger
The mighty ones who rejoice in God’s exaltation
Verse 4
A great company creating a great noise in the mountains like that of many people (possibly indicating this host was spiritual not human)
A tumultuous noise like the kingdoms of the nations gathering together
The LORD of hosts (the Leader of this army) musters the army together for battle (the purpose)
Verse 5
They travel far to join the Lord’s army
From the end of heaven
They are weapons of the Lord’s indignation who will destroy the whole land
The day of God’s battle has begun
Verse 6
The call to wail for the day of the Lord is here
The day of the Lord will be a time of destruction from the Almighty
Verse 7
No strength left hand limp
No courage left hearts melt
Verse 8
There will be fear
They will feel as though their in labor with all the pangs, sorrow, and pain of child birth
They will look at each other in wonder with their faces red from crying and embarrassment
