Some people think of themselves as religious because they discuss religious questions. It is much easier to discuss theological questions than to be kind and considerate and helpful at home, or efficient and conscientious and honest at work.
kind and considerate and helpful at home, or efficient and conscientious and honest at work.
There is no vurtue in sitting and discusssing deep theologica questions when the simple tasks of the christian life are waiting to be done such discussion can be nothing other than avoidence of Christian duities Paul was certain that the real task for Christians lay in Christian action. That is not to say that there is no place for Christian discussion; but the discussion which does not end in action is very largely wasted time.

Paul was certain that the real task for Christians lay in Christian action. That is not to say that there is no place for Christian discussion; but the discussion which does not end in action is very largely wasted time.
9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
I. Things to Avoid (V. 9)
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Foolish questions
Geneologies
Contentiousness
Strivings about the law
They are unprofitable
Avoid foolish Questions
Avoid foolish debate.
This is a common theme that Paul deals witht throughout the eppisles. Do not make a big deal offer minor things, don’t allow arguments over things that simply do not matter to dictate an agenda
4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.
4 he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,
23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.
2 tim

Paul then goes on and tells us what to do with someone who stirs up the privious division
The word used in the KJV is heretick but it litterally means “the one who stirs up division let me read the ESV for you
10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
Pul tells Titus to:
Give his two warnings
Give his two warnings
Then reject him
The idea is if the person rejects the warnigs it is a clear sign that the individual is is wrapped in sinful behavior and therfore He is self conomed.
B. Why reject
He is wrapped in sin
He is self condemed
We are to reject because they are wrapped in sin. simmilart to the teaching in if the ofender has been given three chances to repent he is to be cut off
14 If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
They condem themselves because because they reject the warnings of the leadership.
