Summer is always an exciting time - no tests, no homework, no alarm clocks, it’s just different.
But at the end of Summer, things change - we get back into a routine, or perhaps we build a new routine.
New Middle Schoolers
New High Schoolers
Graduates
As you guys are navigating these changes, I want to take one night and celebrate our graduates for completing an incredible milestone, but also encourage everyone of us going through changes in our mission.
The Goal: you will leave tonight able to “step boldly into your next mission”
Am I Called?
God is speaking to Joshua after Moses has died...
Joshua
Victory is assured because Joshua is called by God
How do you know if you are called?
Everyone is called...
you were called by God, live a life like someone that was called by God almighty!
you were bought with a price (calvary)
don’t belong to someone that didn’t pay for you
belong to the only One that paid the price for you
God will speak to your weakness
Joshua
Joshua is called to boldness - this exposed Joshua’s weakness…he had doubts about himself
good enough
…he
ready enough
eise enough
strong enough
Joshua was NOT thrown into this moment.
He was constantly with Moses while they wandered through the desert for 40 years.
Joshua was one of the two of the twelve that came back and said lets go take the land.
There was boldness in him, but in this moment we see that he lacked confidence in his new position/mission.
**side note** there is no record of anyone opposing Joshua in this moment.
He wasn’t afraid of the people, I believe he was afraid of going WITHOUT God with him.
The solution is God’s Word
Joshua didn’t just need to read God’s word...
Truth had to be spoken (on his lips)
Truth had to be known (in his mind)
Truth had to be lived (had to do it)
Partner with Others
Joshua acted on God’s word; the result:
He partnered with others to accomplish God’s plan
Entering College Years:
- didn’t seek help and ended up wasting my first year of college
- didn’t take inventory or ask others what they saw in me, and because I didn’t think much of myself, I wasted that time
Paul to Timothy
Timothy became a great pastor because he had the support and wisdom from Paul.
Paul addresses Timothy as his true son in the faith - this shows relationship
The people that you surround yourself with will ultimately become the person you look like.
Fight with God
Paul wrote three letters to the generation to follow him, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy and Titus
Look at the advice that Paul is giving Timothy about how to live his life:
Flee
Flee & Fight
Flee from the things in
Fight the good fight of the faith
How do you fight?
Pursue the following:
Righteousness (doing what’s right)
Godliness (living like God tells us)
Faith (believing without seeing)
Love (love like you’ve never been hurt)
Steadfast (have patience and don’t give up right away)
Gentleness (have compassion on others)
Take Hold of Eternal Life
You’ve made a confession to follow Jesus
You’ve been baptized and gone public with your faith
Don’t abandon eternal life for momentary pleasure!
