Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.
Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share,
storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life.
Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
Dangers for the Rich
Dangers for the Rich
Don’t be arrogant
The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it?
You are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us—and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you!
2. Don’t set your hope on the uncertainty of wealth
Someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
“Friend,” he said to him, “who appointed me a judge or arbitrator over you?”
He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”
Then he told them a parable: “A rich man’s land was very productive.
He thought to himself, ‘What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops?
I will do this,’ he said. ‘I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there.
Then I’ll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.” ’
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared—whose will they be?’
“That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
“It is foolish to build up wealth— money or possessions — for ourselves; it can be gone in a moment” Art Rainer
The rich should do what is good.
You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.
2. The rich should have good works.
3. The rich should be generous and willing to share.
4. The rich should store up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age
“Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
