Worship and Missions (Thursday)

Worship

· Definition of Worship
1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Worship is God centered
Psalm 145:3 ESV
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
Worship is God centered
We go to church wanting to worship and praise God. But sometimes we are distracted. We had a late start to the morning. We are more focused on other things. Whatever the case may be worship is us magnifying the greatness of God.
It involves thinking about, magnifying, and responding to the glory and splendor of God.
1 Chronicles 16:25 ESV
25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods.
John 4:23 ESV
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
All true worship is a response to the self-revelation of God in Christ and Scripture, and arises from our reflection on who He is and what He has done… The worship of God is evoked, informed, and inspired by the vision of God… The true knowledge of God will alwasy lead us to worship.
Angels worship God
Psalm 103:20 ESV
20 Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word!
Worship is Christ centered
Matthew 2:11 ESV

John 20:28 ESV
28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”
D.A. Carson says
To worship God “in spirit and in truth” is first and foremost a way of saying that we must worship God by means of Christ. IN him the reality has dawn and the shadows are being swept away. Christian worship is new-covenant worship; it is gospel-inspired worship; it is Christ-centered worship; it is cross-focused worship.
Worship is Spirit empowered
The Holy Spirit inspires praise
2 Samuel 23:1–2 ESV
1 Now these are the last words of David: The oracle of David, the son of Jesse, the oracle of the man who was raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel: 2 “The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me; his word is on my tongue.
Ephesians 5:18 ESV
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
John 16:14 ESV
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

There are many benefits of worship for God’s people
