#32 Jesus rejected in Nazareth
Jesus had spent about a year in around Jerusalem and was rejected by the religious establishment.
The events recorded in took place basically between 4-15.
(WW).
Jesus then headed North back toward Galilee and instead of going around Samaria, He went through Samaria and met the woman at the well.
Not only did she accept Jesus but she ran back and told everybody in town about Jesus and they came out to meet Him.
The whole town begged Jesus to stay with them and teach.
Jesus stayed 2 extra days and then continued on with His journey.
Jesus by passed Nazareth and went to Cana. in Cana, a government official had traveled from Capernaum to Cana to see if Jesus would travel to Capernaum to heal his son.
Jesus healed the boy right then demonstrating his Deity.
Now Jesus is going to turn back South and go to the Town He was raised in, Nazareth.
Remember He was Born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth.

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
4:16–22.
In a setting of universal praise, Jesus went home to Nazareth to preach.
He followed his family’s normal habit and went to synagogue worship.
Jesus Himself made it a custom to attend Church on the Sabbath.
This was not required under the law.
Synagogues came to be during the Babylonian captivity.
The requirement to start a new Synagogues was to have 10 Jewish men.
We get a lot of our Church traditions from the services conducted in the Synagogue.
Jesus Who had never sinned even attended these services.
Those who don’t think they need to be in church are not following the Lord’s example.
Also, those who do not attend church tend to fall in to sin easier.
Remember
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Lions hunt by singling an animal out from the heard.
Once it is singled out it becomes Lion food.
That is what happens to people that don’t go to church.
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
(The day of Judgement mentioned in ).
The Synagogue service were usually conducted in this manner:
They repeated ; ; (called the Shema), the central verse of Judaism, pledging allegiance to the one God.
Next, they prayed, heard a passage read from the Pentateuch or Torah, then a passage from the prophets, a sermon, and a final priestly blessing.
Jesus was given the honor of reading the scroll and then preaching and teaching.
He read .
The Custom was to stand while reading and then sit to teach.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.
And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Jesus is describing His ministry in these verses from Isaiah.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
The reference here is the “Year of Jubilee” described in .
The acceptable year of the Lord is a synonym for the Jubilee year.
Every seventh year was a “Sabbatical year” it also called a “Shmita year” for the nation, when the land was allowed to rest; and every fiftieth year (after seven Sabbaticals) was set apart as the “Year of Jubilee.”
The main purpose of this special year was the balancing of the economic system: slaves were set free and returned to their families, property that was sold reverted to the original owners, and all debts were canceled.
The land lay fallow as man and beast rested and rejoiced in the Lord.
The last Smita year was 5775 (25 September through 13 September 2015).
The next one is 5782 on September 7, 2021.
Some think the next Jubilee will be in the fall of 2026 through 2027.
Keep in mind these dates are very hotly debated.
Some Messianic Jews believe Jesus will return in a Shmita year and maybe even Rosh Hosanna the Jewish new year.
Which is September 29 through October 1 this year.
Notice that Jesus was annointed which is the meaning of the Greek term Christ and the Hebrew term Messiah.
Notice that he was not annointed with oil.
He was annointed with the Holy Spirit so that He could do the things God had for Him to do.
We to, when we get saved are annointed and indwelt by the Holy Spirit to do things that God has for us to do.
The Holy Spirit does not force us to be obedient, He gives us the choice.
That still small voice is very powerful and if we will be obedient we will see God working and enjoy the blessings of what God is doing.
If we choose to ignore that voice, you are being disobedient and you will miss all tyhe blaessings that God has for you.
God knows all of our weakness’s and inadequcies but through the power of the Holy Spirit, He will equip us to do the things that He would have us to do.
I do not know what is telling you to do that is between you and Him.
What I can tell you is if you are lost it is His will that you get saved.
If you are saved it is God’s will that you ntell other people about Jesus.
I can also tell you it is absolutley not God’s will for you to sit there and do nothing.
You were saved for a purpose.
There are a few clues to what God wants you to do, there is that gentle nudge, that still small voice, there are open doors, there is conviction.
God may also use other people in your life to reveal His will to you whether it is your Mother, wife, Sunday school teacher, Preacher, co worker other people that some how sense God’s cal on your life.
This I learned first hand, sitting around waiting for God is a waste of precious time and a sin.
Get to what God has for you to do there could be souls in the balance.
You will never have peace until you are giving into God’s will.
You cna’t out stubborn God.
Preach good tidings The word preach here is actually to word that is translated evangelize.
What is the messge?
It is good tidings or good news which where we get the word Gospel.
What is the Gospel?
, , .
Notice who the message of the Gospel is for: “ unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
He has anointed Me to: In this prophecy, the Messiah announces that He is here to heal the fivefold damage that sin brings.
Sin has done great damage, so there needs to be a great work of redemption.
• To preach the gospel to the poor: Sin impoverishes, and the Messiah will bring good news to the poor.
• To heal the brokenhearted: Sin breaks hearts, and the Messiah has good news for brokenhearted.
• To proclaim liberty to the captives: Sin makes people captive and enslaves them, and the Messiah has come to set them free.
• Recovery of sight to the blind: Sin blinds us, and the Messiah has come to heal our spiritual and moral blindness.
• To set at liberty those who are oppressed: Sin oppresses its victims, and the Messiah comes to bring liberty to the oppressed.
i. Thankfully, Jesus didn’t come to only preach deliverance or even to only bring deliverance.
Jesus came to be deliverance for us.
(David Guzik).
Notice that Jesus did not qoute all of verse 2.
He stopped at the comma which is was not there in the origianal Hebrew.
