Good News!

If there is Good news, there must be _______ news? I’ll bet you can fill in the blank, can’t you? Who doesn’t like to hear good news? Today we are looking at the Good News of the Gospel as compared to the bad news without the Light of the Gospel.
Don’t you love a conversation to start with good news? Good news outside of the Gospel like
Engagement/wedding announcement
First child/grandchild announcement

Ευαγγέλιο = the gospel (euanggelion)

What better thing can we dwell on than the Good News, the Gospel, the Eunggelion in the Greek
We have looked at Php4:8-9 but today I want to bring in just a little more (Php4:6-9; Lk2:10; Isa52:7)
Philippians 4:6–7 NASB95
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:8 NASB95
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:9 NASB95
9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Gospel is Good News spoken in New Testament only of glad tidings of Christ and His salvation (complete Word Study Dictionary)
It is
Luke 2:10 NASB95
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Good news of Great joy, that is spoken of in the Old Testament pointing towards Christ
Isaiah 52:7 NASB95
7 How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
The Gospel, the Good News, and as mentioned before there is no basis for Good News without knowing there is bad news (Isa59:2; Jn3:18-20; Eph2:1, 3, 12)
Isaiah 59:2 NASB95
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
John 3:18–19 NASB95
18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
Ephesians 2:1–3 NASB95
1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
look at (v.1; v.3) - were dead in our transgressions, were children of wrath, that is bad news.
Ephesians 2:12 NASB95
12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
Separated from Christ, having no hope, without God, that is bad news. But we need to know there is bad news so we can appreciate the Good News.

The Good News

Good news as the scripture describes and defines is a good way to look at it, so enjoy this scripture journey about the Good News.
Good News that Jesus wants everyone to hear (Mk16:15-16; Mt28:19-20)
Mark 16:15–16 NASB95
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
and then there is
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Good News that is the power of God unto salvation (Rom1:15-16)
Romans 1:15–16 NASB95
15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Don’t be ashamed of the Gospel, be eager to share it with others. For it is God’s to save!
Good News that warns of other gospels (Gal1:6-9)
Beware, there is only one true gospel, only one true way, there are others that pervert the gospel or proclaim a gospel that is not really a gospel at all.
Galatians 1:6–7 NASB95
6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
Galatians 1:8–9 NASB95
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!
Anyone who teaches anything other then the Gospel, Paul calls for them to be accursed.
Good News is the gospel that must be obeyed (1Pt4:17; 2The1:7-9)
1 Peter 4:17 NASB95
17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
So what is the outcome of those who do not obey, surrender to the Gospel?
2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 NASB95
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:9 NASB95
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
So you know the Gospel, you have to hear the gospel, believe the gospel and obey the gospel, it has to be the gospel as proclaimed by Jesus and the Apostles.

The Gospel: In Short Order

The Gospel, the Good News, all because there is bad news, has things that we need to know, things to believe, things to obey and the results of such things. May we take a few minutes to look at that.
_______________________________________
The Gospel: Things to believe
Christ died for our sins (1Cor15:1-3; Isa53:4-6)
Christ was buried and rose again (1Cor15:4-8)
Christ rose again and was exalted (Act2:33-36)
Christ and the promise of His return (Act1:9-11)
_______________________________________
The Gospel: Things to believe
Christ died for our sins (1Cor15:1-3; Isa53:4-6)
Christ died for our sins according to the scripture
1 Corinthians 15:1–3 NASB95
1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
and want to add to that
Isaiah 53:4–5 NASB95
4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
And I cannot stop there, need to give one more verse
Isaiah 53:6 NASB95
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
He has taken on all our iniquity when we believe and obey the gospel.
The Gospel: Things to believe
Christ died for our sins (1Cor15:1-3; Isa53:4-6)
Christ was buried and rose again (1Cor15:4-8)
1 Corinthians 15:4–6 NASB95
4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
1 Corinthians 15:7–8 NASB95
7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.
The Gospel: Things to believe
Christ died for our sins (1Cor15:1-3; Isa53:4-6)
Christ was buried and rose again (1Cor15:4-6)
Christ rose again and was exalted (Act2:33-36)
Acts 2:33–34 NASB95
33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand,
Acts 2:35–36 NASB95
35 Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” ’ 36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Hold on this is all Good News, but the best is yet to come.
The Gospel: Things to believe
Christ died for our sins (1Cor15:1-3; Isa53:4-6)
Christ was buried and rose again (1Cor15:4-6)
Christ rose again and was exalted (Act2:33-36)
Christ and the promise of His return (Act1:9-11)
Acts 1:9–10 NASB95
9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.
Acts 1:11 NASB95
11 They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
No excuses, judgment is coming and we need to be prepared! we must obey the gospel, next we have

We must confess our faith (Rom10:9-10; Mt10:32-33)
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
Jesus told us in Mt10:32-33 we must confess Him before men, and He would confess men before the Father in Heaven, hold on better give you the scripture.
Matthew 10:32–33 NASB95
32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 “But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

Acts 2:38 NASB95

Acts 3:19 NASB95
19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;
Or Jesus own words after the resurrection
Luke 24:46–47 NASB95
46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

And then look at
Acts 22:16 NASB95
16 ‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’
and then
1 Peter 3:21 NASB95
21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Remission of sins (Eph1:7; Act2:38)
Gift of the Holy Spirit (Act2:38; Act5:32; Jn7:38-39)
Again there is Act2:38 and the last part is for the gift of the Holy Spirit. And add to that:
Acts 5:32 NASB95
32 “And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Gift of Holy Spirit to those who obey the gospel, the good news.
John 7:38–39 NASB95
38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
And that is good news, great news, it is the gospel message ad there is yet more

1 John 5:10–11 NASB95

1 John 5:12–13 NASB95
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
