Order In The House

Last week we learned about the importance of Love in the Church.
Tonight I’m going to skip over some very important passages of scripture intentionally because we’ll be going over those verses in our Grow Series on Sunday mornings this coming month.
To lay the foundation for tonight’s message I’ll give you a synopsis of those verses without going into them too deep.
Paul describes the Gifts of the Spirit in chapter 12 which we’ve read numerous times already.
He urges us to operate in those spiritual gifts with love, because anything and everything that can be done is worthless if Love isn’t the driving motive behind it.
The gift of Tongues is for personal edification and a sign unto the unbelievers.
The gift of Interpretation and Prophecy is for the edification of others.
All gifts are greatly important but they all serve a purpose and must be operated in correctly to ovoid confusion and chaos in the church.
Now we get to tonight's lesson Order In The House
1 Corinthians 14:26–40 NKJV
26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church. 36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? 37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant. 39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Not everyone has to operate in their Gifts all at once.
Not everyone has to operate in their Gifts all at once.
Let all things be done for the edification.
Know when to hold your tongues
Some might say that they don’t to quench the Spirit by not being obedient to speak in tongues when they feel the urge to speak but Paul is making it clear that just as you can quench the Spirit by not speaking when compelled you can also quench the Spirit by speaking in tongues too much.
Give time for an interpreter
This is why most congregations have a moment of silence when a message is given out in tongues.
If there is no interpreter Keep Silent
Let Him speak to Himself and to God
Let two or three Prophets speak and the others Judge
If anything is revealed to another let the first be silent.
Prophesy one by one that all may learn and be encouraged.
The spirits of the Prophets are subject to the Prophets.
God isn’t the author of confusion but peace in all churches.
Let your women be silent in the church
They were not permitted to speak according to the law
What law?
Let them ask their husbands at home
It was a shame for a woman to speak publicly
It’s no longer a shame…well most the time…lol
