Bible Study

James 1:17

Every Good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or Shadow of Turning.

This verse is prefaced by verse 16

Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren

Satan deals with falsehood the things of the dark.

God deals completely in the light.

Like a laser beam

Every good and perfect Gift

Every good gift that is given was initiated by the giving spirit God shared with us.

God is the very source of the giving impulse that we have.

The ability to give is one aspect of God that He has placed in us.

He is the very source of our gifts.

          We give a birthday present

          He gave us life

          We give Christmas presents

          He gave Jesus

We give the gift of food

He created the food so that we may give.

God Gave the perfect gift we are just the channels or vessel in which often times the Gift is given.

We too many times take credit for the gift . . .  credit should be given to God

When we take credit for the gift it is not a perfect gift then.

God gave all to us out of love.

Our gifts should be in the same manner.

The gift of time is often the perfect gift.

Spend time with children

Spend time with people in need

It is the character of God to give. Because He is good, He delights in giving good gifts to those who trust Him.

I wonder how gracious of a receiver we are.

It seems like I am never Satisfied.

God is perfect, and everything which He does is perfect. Therefore, His gifts are not only good, but they are also perfect

Coming down from the father of lights

The phrase “Father of lights” is found only in this passage of all the New Testament

The reference to God as the God of light is frequent in the Scriptures beginning with the creation account

He starts in Genesis 1 where he parts the darkness and the light.

And completes it is Revelation 22:5  “there shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. ……

Jesus said in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world”

Jesus is the switch to eternal light!!

God gives us the perfect light of the sun and moon.

He is the sovereign creator.

The gift is written all over the creation story.

The light of communication is absolute.

He gives us direct access to Him.

When we call upon Him it is like turning on a light.  He is there.

With whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Malachi 3:6

6              “For I am the Lord, I do not change;

Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

Get a grasp on Deuteronomy 31:6 when He made the promise to the children of Israel

He bring it all new in Hebrews 13:5

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He himself has said, “I will never leave you nor Forsake you”

God’s is not an Indian giver

He gives His gifts as a perfect gift for our benefit.

God will never place shadows around His Gifts we tend to do this.

God’s giving nature does not change.

The Word of God is constant.  He never changes

The shadow may move but the shadow maker is always there.

We are the ones who moves and get a different perspective.

The sun never moves during an eclipse

Jimmy Draper President of life way said this in a sermon:

“When the sun is in eclipse, it is not the fault of the sun.  The sun hasn’t failed to shine.  But something has come between the sun and the earth.  It is the way the earth is turned that causes the shadow.  Whenever there is a shutting off of the presence of God from our lives, it is not His fault, but ours.  It is our sinfulness that has caused us to turn away.”

He is consistent.

He did not get up this morning and say I think I may not let the Sun Rise.

Or they might me able to do without Oxygen for about an Hour.

He never changes even though we often fall short of the Mark He has placed for us.

We are like shifting shadows as humans.

Our humility toward God and the recognition of the shadows we cast should be looked upon often.

Sometimes we as humans cast a shadow and prohibit God’s true light to shine.

Ask yourself are you casting a shadow . . . are you standing between someone and God.

Praise the Lord he is consistent and never moves.  We can go right back to Him.

Since He never moves we can bring someone that is in the darkness to the light He will always be just on prayer away.
