At the beginning of this series we gave you a list of HOT TOPICS in our society,

On September 17th, 1778…
NONETHELESS, I’d like to welcome you to WORSHIP AT THE WELL…
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine and John Adams…
All under the supervision of the one and only George Washington…
For those of you who don’t know me… my name is Trey/ or Pastor Trey…
Created a document… this document would…
#1.Establish our nations government…
I have the privilege of serving as the LEAD PASTOR…
#2. Confirm Fundamental laws…
And #3. Protect the rights and privileges of its citizens…………………
This document… is known as…The Constitution of the United States…
FOUNDING PASTOR here at THE WELL…
One of the rights…which this document sought out to PROTECT…
--Was THE PEOPLE’S right to VOTE…
THE WELL IS A CHURCH ON A MISSION…
Article 15 section 1 states that…“Citizens of the united states have the right/privilege to VOTE…”
*A right that just 80 years ago…Would NOT have been afforded to women…
*A right that just 40 years ago…Would NOT have been afforded to ME…
--A mission to live a LIFE with CHRIST…
because of the color of my skin…And so I take this RIGHT…this PRIVELEDGE…
To be educated on POLITICAL ISSUES… the right to vote… and to have a voice… seriously…
--Live a LIFE in COMMUNITY…
AS I hope you do too…
I believe as Christians JESUS calls us to VOTE…
--And live a LIFE of CHARITY…
In fact, I believe scripture gives us the impression that not only should we vote,
but to take it seriously, WHY? Because I believe we will be accountable to GOD for what and whom we vote for………..
Now… Quick History Lesson
Our FOCUS for the REMAINDER of 2016 and all of 2017…
You will find NO mention of political parties…in the CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES…
WHY? Because when it was created…Political parties didn’t exist…
…is to DROP THE BUCKET and PICK UP THE NET…
Now, the politicians of that time… had many differences with each other…
HOWEVER, they were attempting to keep the country from DIVISION…
-from factions…
That is… Leave the 4 walls of the church and GO…
-from organized opposing groups/ parties…..…which looking back, was probably the WISEST THING A COUNTRY COULD EVER DO…
BTW: A lot of that had to do with GEORGE WASHINGTON…
Go and be fishers of MEN… and WOMEN…
Everyone loved GEORGE WASHINGTON… …….
So much so…that at one time……G.W won like every ELECTORAL VOTE POSSIBLE……..
Which would be POLITICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TODAY…….
In fact, soon we will do just that…
However, in 1796… George Washington decides to step down… after 2 terms…
of PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES…and around this same time…
As Karsten, alluded to earlier…
the country began to DIVIDE… it began to slip into TWO CAMPS…
1--on one side was JON ADAMS and ALEXANDER HAMILTON…
Sunday, October 30th, instead of gathering within these 4 walls…
and they formed, what was called… the FEDERALIST’S…
2--On the other side…
Was JAMES MADISON and THOMAS JEFFERSON… they formed the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC…….
**We will MEET HERE… and HEAD OVER TOGETHER to Golden Triangle…
Now, during this time people began to say “I follow JON ADAMS!”
Or well “ I FOLLOW JAMES MADISON.”

OH YEAH? Well, I follow ALEXANDER HAMILTON!”
“Well, I’m TEAM THOMAS JEFERSON…”
BTW: Does that sound familiar?
-To build relationships…
… PAUL IS TALKING TO A GROUP OF CHRISTIANS… who think they are the best thing since sliced bread… They think they have it all together, but they don’t… Here’s what he says… (read )
In other words… You think you have it all figured out, but you are still drinking milk…You think you are operating in the spirit, but you are actually operating in the flesh…
-To serve…
You think you are VERY HEAVENLY, but you are actually very WORLDLY…
It’s getting quiet in here… so let me get back to the history lesson…
-Some of us will be cutting grass…
1815 comes around…after the war of 1812…
where the WHITE HOUSE WAS BURNED AT THE STAKES…
And American POLITICIANS called for UNITY…
-Some will be serving breakfast…
They called for ONENESS…
A time of COMING TOGETHER…
-some will be Praying for families…
Therefore dissolving the two camps (Federalists/DEM,REP)
However, there is STILL TENSION…between the TWO SIDES………
Well, during the elections of 1828 The two sides re-formed… but under different names…
IT WILL BE A SPECIAL, FAMILY FRIENDLY SUNDAY… More details to come!
1--one side was called THE DEMOCRATS….
and the other side called THE WHIGS………..……
So, we are talking about POLITICS today…
In 1852… During a very heated political year…
The Whigs fall completely apart.…and in the hopes of REBUILDING…
partner with anti-slavery activists…to form what we know today as…
-Yeah, you heard me correctly…POLITICS!
The REPUBLICANS…………… And it’s here… during the Fall of 1852…
that our current major political parties/
This is a TOPIC that most churches AVOID AT ALL COST…
our current major political allegiances are born……..
FAST FORWARD 167 years later… to today!!!
-Because it produces DISSENSION…
One of the MAIN questions people want to know about each other…
EVEN BEFORE THEIR RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION IS…
WHERE IS YOUR POLITICAL ALLEGIANCE?
-It produces DISCOMFORT…
Are you a DEMOCRAT, or a REPUBLICAN?
Are you a CONSERVATIVE or a LIBERAL?
-It produces DISUNITY…
Are you an ELEPHANT or a DONKEY?
Are you on the LEFT or are you on the RIGHT?
Do you bleed RED or do you bleed BLUE?
+People leave churches BECAUSE OF POLITICS…
Did you vote for TRUMP or did you vote for HILLARY?
Don’t act like this isn’t true…YOU DO IT TOO!
-Friends become ENEMIES… because of CONFLICTING POLITICAL VIEWS…
All of us know the code words… that we listen for to determine where a person stands…
And the moment we hear it, we begin to think…
+I’ve even seen 2 people FIGHT each other… engaging in an all out BRAWL…
OH, he voted for TRUMP! Or HILLARY…
And what do we do with that information?
We BEGIN TO JUDGE them based on what we think their POLITICAL ALLEGIANCES ARE…
-Because OF A DIFFERENCE IN POLITICAL ALLEGIANCE……..
In fact, within many EVANGELICAL CIRCLES…
The expectation is that Evangelical’s ALLEGIANCE should be to the REPUBLICAN PARTY…
**MOST… EVEN SOME IN THIS ROOM, I IMAGINE…
I’ve heard preachers from their STAGE IMPLORE their congregants to be LOYAL to the REPUBLICAN AGENDA…
Because if JESUS were in bodily form in AMERICA today…
his allegiance would be to the REPUBLICAN PLATFORM…
LACK the ability to ENGAGE IN A SENSIBLE CONVERSATION…
BUT, THAT CAN’T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH…
Oh, and the same is true for DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM………..
with someone who VOTES DIFFERENTLY THAN THEM…………..
I have been in many PROTESTANT CHURCHES…
Where Pastors have DIRECTED their congregations to be LOYAL to the DEMOCRATIC PARTY…
--And therefore, POLITICAL DISCOURSE…
Because, if JESUS were in bodily form in AMERICA, his allegiance would be to the DEMOCRATIC PARTY…
Which can’t be further from the truth…
BTW: I believe one of my JOBS as the PASTOR of this church is DECONSTRUCTION…
has become FROWNED UPON…IN THE CHURCH…
That is, to take this AMERICANIZED, WATERED DOWN, EVANGELICAL, PROTESTANT TEACHING…
That has been INDOCTRINATED INTO US… and replace it with THE GOD OF THE BIBLE…
--POLITICAL DISCOURSE…
THE JESUS OF THE BIBLE… THE CHRISTIANITY OF THE BIBLE…
THE CHRISTIANITY OF THE BIBLE didn’t get its QUES from POLITICS…
POLITICS got its QUES from CHRISTIANITY…
Has been frowned upon in PUBLIC CONVERSATION…
THE JESUS OF THE BIBLE addressed the issues of the day…
He didn’t RUN from the issues of the day…
*Leaving us in the hands of CNN… MSNBC… AND FOX NEWS… over whatever the news source may be…
THE JESUS OF THE BIBLE taught his followers to be BIBLICALLY CORRECT…
Not POLITICALLY CORRECT…
And I believe what has happened in our SOCIETY…
for our POLITICAL UNDERSTANDING/ DISCOURSE…
Is we have become LOYAL to the AGENDAS of a POLITICAL PARTY…
Rather than being LOYAL to the AGENDA of the GOD OF THE BIBLE…
But, why??????????
What has happened today, is the CHURCH has taken a back seat to the ISSUES in our COUNTRY…
And allowed POLITICS to take sit in the driver’s seat… to take the wheel…
Why can’t we have a sensible conversation about POLITICS in THE church?
To the point where the AMERICAN CHURCH has become SAFE…COMFORTABLE… PEOPLE PLEASING, rather than JESUS PLEASING…
The Church that JESUS said the gates of HELL shall not prevail against it…
has become afraid to talk about the issues that are plaguing our country…
If THE church, is where we go to GROW…
PASTORS have given their prophetic voice away to POLITICIANS…
Christians have become CARD-CARRYING REPUBLICANS…
If THE church is where we go to LEARN…
and BANNER WAIVING DEMOCRATS…
And in doing so… we have forfeited the BLOOD-STAINED BANNER OF CHRIST…………
I know what you are thinking… PASTOR TREY, how can you say that?
If THE church is where we go to get GOD’S PERSPECTIVE on LIFE…
Well, here’s how… to pledge your allegiance to any POLITICAL PARTY
is contrary to the CHRISTIANITY OF THE BIBLE…
AND POLITICS LAST TIME I CHECKED…
BTW: to pledge your allegiance to anything other than GOD is contrary to the Christianity of the bible…
But, were just talking POLITICS today…
falls into the bucket of “A part of LIFE…”
Don’t believe me? Let me show you… Turn with me to …Which is our text for today…
Jesus is talking to his disciples (and us) about worldly treasures… and he says… (read 6:24)
Master (KURIOS): LORD/ to whom your allegiance is.
Then, “the church” should be the FIRST place we go…
What does the word allegiance mean?
The loyalty/devotion of a citizen to a person, place, government, group or the like.
…to TALK about POLITICS… IN A GOD HONORING WAY…
In other words, our ultimate devotion/ loyalty is not to anything on this earth…
Because no matter what happens on this earth, who matter who has the majority in congress…
No matter who has veto power… no matter who lives in the WHITE HOUSE…
“THE CHURCH” should be the FIRST place we go…
HEAVEN RULES!!!
No matter who the KING/QUEEN is on this earth/ country… That KING/ QUEEN should not have our ultimate LOYALTY/ DEVOTION…
to UNDERSTAND POLITICS…………….
No matter the governing PARTY in this country… that KINGDOM should not have our ultimate LOYALTY/ DEVOTION…
WHY? Because the scriptures tell us that “THE GOD OF THE BIBLE PUTS UP KINGS, AND TEARS DOWN KINGS.”
Nebuchadnezzar had to learn that the hard way…
SO, THAT’S WHAT WE’RE DOING TODAY…
DANIEL TOLD HIM I will respect you as the authority… KING of this NATION…
Which tells us to do… RESPECT AUTHORITY…
We are going to talk about JESUS’ GOSPEL…
But, never will I be LOYAL/DEVOTED to you… WHY? Because HEAVEN RULES EARTH!!!
When we say things like, no matter what… I vote REPUBLICAN…
…and how it impacts our understanding of POLITICS…
or no matter what… I vote DEMOCRATIC…
Or no matter what OBAMA did… I am with him…
or no matter what TRUMP says… I am with him…
And let me warn you…
It is literally us saying… THIS PARTY, or this PERSON has my ultimate ALLEGIANCE…
THIS PARTY, or this PERSON has my ultimate LOYALTY…
--There WILL be moments in this sermon…
And get this… to be COMPLETELY LOYAL to a POLITICAL PARTY…
is to be COMPLETELY DISLOYAL to GOD………………
Yall, think I’m making this up… Do I need to read again? (read 6:24)
THAT MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE…
Let me try to put it another way… it’s like having your cake and eating it too…
Do you know what that IDOIM means?
--There will be moments in this sermon…
This is a cake… BTW TUESDAY is my birthday…
Can anyone guess how old I will be?
THAT CHALLENGE YOUR CURRENT UNDERSTANDING…
The old AMERICAN IDIOM says “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
What it means is you can’t KEEP YOUR CAKE…
WHILE at the same time EAT YOUR CAKE…
--There WILL be moments…
Why, because if you eat the cake… eventually you will not be able to keep it…
Likewise, if you keep your cake, you can’t eat your cake…
where you will wish I would have gone a little further…
How does this relate to what we are talking about???
Most Christians want their cake, and want to eat it too… In a lot of different ways… But, again we are talking POLITICS today…
We want to be loyal to a political party…AND loyal to the GOD of the bible at the same time…
OR you will wish I wouldn’t have gone so far…
It’s in us… We want to be on a team…
I am TEAM LEBRON not TEAM KD…
There may be moments where you question…
But, I’m TEAM JORDAN over TEAM LEBRON…
TEAM DALLAS or TEAM FORT WORTH…
Whether this is the church for you…
You can’t be LOYAL to DALLAS and be LOYAL to FORT WORTH…
Why, because you will begin to love one other the other… and it will taint your view of the other…
In the same sense… we can’t be LOYAL to 2 kingdoms…
BUT, let me tell you NOW…
Because either you will hate the one and love the other… you will be devoted to one and despise the other…
For Example:
DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER…
It’s the reason many of us can turn a blind eye… while immigrants are being treated worse than animals at the AMERICAN border… Pastor Trey this is a political issue… NO, this is an GOD issue… (DEM)
Whether they need to be in this country or not… They need to be treated with kindness and dignity. WHY?
Because they were created in the image of GOD. Jesus was an immigrant for HEAVENS SAKE…
BECAUSE ALL I AM DOING today, IS TEACHING THE SCRIPTURES…
We can’t be loyal to 2 masters because we will hate one and love the other…
We will be devoted to one and despise the other…
And any Church/Pastor that doesn’t do this…
It’s the reason many of us have become casual with the abortion issue…
Pastor Trey this is a political issue…It’s the woman’s right to choose, it’s her body…
NO, the bible actually tells us our bodies don’t belong to us… they belong to GOD…
Any church that applies “their” FEELINGS to POLITICS instead of…
We can’t be loyal to 2 masters because we will hate one and love the other…
We will be devoted to one and despise the other…
applying “GODS” FEELINGS in scripture to POLITICS…
IF YOUR ALLEGIANCE is to a POLITICAL PARTY…
If your LOYALTY is to a POLITICAL PARTY…
Is doing you and the body of CHRIST a GRAVE DIS-SERVICE…
If your DEVOTION is to a POLITICAL PARTY…
If you LOVE is to a certain POLITICAL PARTY…
Your true ALLEGIANCE, LOYALY and LOVE for GOD is in question…
Well, let’s jump into the tension… but first, lets pray!
Because it keeps you from seeing clearly…
Taints your VIEW… it CONTAMINATES your spiritual perspective…
(slow to speak, slow to anger and quick to listen)
As PAUL says…It makes us babes in the faith… it keeps us eating solid food…
It makes us WORLDY…
OKAY, I know what your thinking… Pastor Trey!

You have told us that being LOYAL to political parties isn’t biblical…
You have told us that the GOD OF THE BIBLE… PUTS up KINGS and TEARS down KINGs…

Don’t let the world define you…
