WHAT YOU ARE AS A CHRISTIAN

ROMANS 1:6-8

Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:  To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

I.                   YOU ARE THE CALLED OF JESUS CHRIST

A.   BY HIS WORD

B.   BY HIS SPIRIT: MATTHEW 11:27 “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.”

C.   BY YOUR RESPONSE IN FAITH AND OBEDIENCE

II.                YOU ARE THE BELOVED OF GOD

A.   THE COMMON LOVE “FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD”

B.   A SPECIAL LOVE, BECAUSE GOD REVEALED HIS LOVE TO YOU AND YOU LOVED GOD, BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED YOU

C.   THIS LOVE REVEALED IN YOUR ADOPTION: I JOHN 3:1 “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

III.             YOU ARE CALLED TO HOLY LIVING

A.   YOU ARE DISTINGUISHED FROM A SINFUL SOCIETY: ROMANS 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

B.   YOU ARE NO LONGER WHO YOU WERE: II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

C.   YOU HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS: EPHESIANS 4:24 “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

D.   YOU HAVE BECOME A WITNESS TO GOD’S HOLINESS BY YOUR CHARACTER AND YOUR SPEECH.
