Introduction
Video game saves and do-overs.
Do you ever wish you could get a do-over?
Life doesn’t work like a video game.
Or can it?
Sold Out
Begin with
First message was about being transformed and sold out = completely devoted to Jesus.
If you want to be my follower.
Then deny yourself.
– surrender control of your life to Jesus – let him take the driver’s seat.
Take up your cross – say no to self, yes to Jesus.
Identify with Jesus’ death on the cross.
Be prepared to suffer and even die for the sake of the kingdom and Jesus.
Follow Me – last month we looked at and said this means follow Jesus wherever He leads, observe, emulate, become like Him.
(just 5 and 8)
Jesus as example.
Consider others better than yourself.
Submit.
Humility.
Etc.

Humility, servanthood, obedience.
even to the extent of suffering and death on a cross.
Becoming Like Jesus
Paul talking about the OT law and how Israel did not understand, it was like having a veil over their hearts.
v.16 when you turn to Jesus that veil is removed from heart
v.17 the Spirit of God lives in us and where the Spirit is there is FREEDOM.
v.18 with our faces exposed/unveiled we gaze at Jesus as looking in a mirror.
being transformed into the same image – to look more and more like Jesus.
That’s a spiritual image.
reflect the glory of the Lord.
Becoming increasingly like Christ.
His Spirit gives us real freedom.
being transformed into the image of Christ.
The ever increasing glory and image of Jesus.
(not becoming just a better version of me but the life of Christ living through me by His Spirit.)
Becoming the New Me
take off old nature put on Christ.
Being renewed to image of Creator.
read vv.

v.1 not if = Since/because
raised with Christ = carrying cross, crucified with Christ
view/focus on Jesus and heavenly (kingdom come)
because you died to this life and your new life with Christ is much higher than the old life.
the old you.
v.5 because you died to this earthly life with Christ (deny yourself and take up your cross) - put to death the behaviors of your earthly life
v.6 God’s anger at sin – unholiness –
v.7 you used to do these things
v.8 but now – (used to, but now) get rid of old behaviors
v.9 put away = remove, take off, behaviors of the earthly old self, old nature
v.10 put on – new nature.
Being renewed, made new as learning to know and become like your Creator.
v.10 put on – new nature.
Being renewed, made new as learning to know and become like your Creator.
v.11 Christ is all that matters
v.12 clothe yourselves with the behaviors of Jesus – life in the Spirit.
Same as Galatians fruit of the Spirit.
v.14 above all clothe yourselves with love.
(not becoming just a better version of me but the life of Christ living through me by His Spirit.)
Deny ourselves, take up our cross, follow Jesus to become like Him and carry on the rescue operation that He established.
So, yes.
Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace that we receive by faith.
But it’s more than just a prayer, it is about being transformed into the image of Jesus.
It’s more than just going to heaven, it is about renewing our relationship with our Creator.
It’s more than just a spiritual transaction, it’s about completely selling out to Jesus.
Conclusion
Socrates – An unexamined life is not worth living.
Pat Morley says one of the biggest reasons men fail in life today.
Jesus used as a way for me to examine my life.
Am I doing everything in the name/for the sake of Jesus?
If something cannot be done in His name, should I be doing it?
Jesus used as a way for me to examine my life.
Am I doing everything in the name/for the sake of Jesus?
If something cannot be done in His name, should I be doing it?
Examining my life, but keeping my focus on the things above, not earthly things, like in v.2-3
Big Idea: When I follow Jesus, He makes me new.
What About You?
Have you taken time to examine your life?
Are you yielding your will to the will and way of Jesus?
Are you following Jesus in taking off your old nature and putting on the nature of Jesus?
Are you daily becoming more like Jesus – the new you?
