Title: The Straight Path (Trust)

Introduction:

Last time I talked about how God has a purpose in the storm for those who love Him and everything is used for your good. When things are not going well just remember God is building you and giving you new tools and making you more like Him. Now that we understand God is in control how can you trust God in the storm and all times. It is not enough to tell your self God gots this, God gots this, God gots this, oh nooooo. It is spiritual just not talk.
Introduction:
Lets read:

Scripture:

Scripture:

5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

6  In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

7  Be not wise in your own eyes;

fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

8  It will be healing to your flesh

and refreshment to your bones.

9  Honor the LORD with your wealth

and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

10  then your barns will be filled with plenty,

and your vats will be bursting with wine.

These scriptures are an invitation for us to take our whole life into the kingdom of God and learn how to live the life God has given us in power with Him fighting our battles.
We see here we are commanded to trust in the Lord with our whole heart! This doesn’t mean or just mean:
I am saved from eternal damnation and separation from God
That Jesus is Lord
Jesus was perfect
He rose on the third day for our salvation
No, this means a whole lot more. The thing I listed above are what we must believe when we put our faith in God. Trust is different.
Here let me show you how this works. Go from having faith to trust to having a full blown relationship with Christ.

Steps:

Faith (noun) Drawn by the Holy Spirit
Comes first - confident belief that God is the sovereign Creator of all things and that He can and will do what He Claims
Trust ( verb,do or act) Comes second - trust is never guaranteed; a willful choice and can only grow out of faith
Definition of Trust: 1 a : firm belief in the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b : a person or thing in which confidence is placed. 2 a : confident hope
Supernatural, fulfilling Relationship with God
Living Righteous Ethically / your character (not relationally - legal standing with God - Righteousness so no one can boast, Born into Adam so we are seen as sinners until we accept Christ)
Right Standing with God

18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.

I am reminded of a story that helps illustrates the difference between faith and trust.

Story:

Story:
Boldin tight rope walker and manager Harry Colcord.
He told Colcord you are no longer Colcord you are Boldin, you are a part of me, mind, body and soul, If I sway, sway with me. Do not attempt to do any balancing on yourself.
God is on the tight rope doing things we can not do he is doing spectacular things.
Spectators had faith but Colcord trusted

Trust:

Trust:
Question to audience: You have faith but do you trust Him?
God handling all the challenges and the worries of life. He is the one doing the flips on the tight rope, he is the one doing the balancing, helping us along the straight path.
God is out on that tight rope, that is His straight path.
Feet in Sand - We always see the feet in the sand picture where it goes from two sets of prints to one set. And the guy ask why is there only one set and Jesus responds because I am caring you through.
However, I would say being a Christian is really not a walk on the beach it is more of walking over Niagra falls on a tight rope that is swaying in gusting winds and people watching on to see if you fail. The path is narrow the lord says not wide. See friends it is crucial we understand this concept of trust not only for our salvation but so God can get to know us!
See, as I was studding about what comes from trusting God trying to understand I was seeing things like:
Joy
Strength
the super natural
witnessing
All these things are great but I felt like there was something even deeper that the Lord wanted to get across to us.
God answered with “So I can have a relationship with you” Right after this I felt this over whelming love come all over me and started to understand HOW MUCH God wants to know us!. Of course there are a lot of perks but the greatest is fellowship with our best friend and savior that knew us before we were even born.
but I believe it is more of a tight rope that we do not have to worry about falling because we are on God's back.
carry you across the tight rope as it sways and jerks. All the while he is doing tricks and things we could not even imagine.

Goal: Relationship

Goal:
So I asked God what is the point of Trust?????
God answered with “So I can have a relationship with you” Right after this I felt this over whelming love come all over me and started to understand HOW MUCH God wants to know you and me!. Of course there are a lot of perks but the greatest is fellowship with our best friend and savior that knew us before we were even born.
Cost: Cost is too great not to trust Him. Do not stop short of blessing the person that gave it all for you. He wants a relationship and yes He will truly carry you above the raging waters as the tight rope sways and jerks. All the while he is doing tricks and things we could not even imagine. All eyes and pressure will be on Him not you.
My explanation - I see all these things that people are saying comes when we trust you. I said what do you say? God said " I get to have a relationship with you" then I felt this over whelming love come over me.
carry you across the tight rope as it sways and jerks. All the while he is doing tricks and things we could not even imagine.
WE all DESIRE something more in relationships that is our human nature and something God put in us so we would be drawn to HIM.
What do we look for in a relationship/marriage?
Marriage
to be Known
Accepted for who we are
not to be alone
someone to share life with
life is more meaningful when we get to share it with someone else
someone to make memories with
someone to hold
someone to cry with
someone to laugh with
Yes, that can be our relationship with God and the one He created for us to live!
HERE IS HOW WE GO FROM FAITH TO TRUST TO RELATIONSHIP

The impossible Greater things
HERE IS HOW WE GO FROM FAITH TO TRUST TO RELATIONSHIP
How 1

1) How 1 - Mentally

We see in how to trust God:
Do not lean on your own understanding Be not wise in your own eyes Acknowledge Him in all things Fear the Lord Turn from your wicked ways
Do not lean on your own understanding - Trust is to lean on God
Almost everyone here has been let down at some point in their life or even many times. So it is easy for us to put our trust in our selves. However, here we see God telling us/warning us not to do that, to put our hope in Him and rest in HIS understanding.
However, this is not easy and one thing we can do is each day consciously lay aside our own plans and expectations and surrender to His will.
Acknowledge Him in all things - Trust is to realize everything comes form God even the little things.
Acknowledge in Hebrew is the root word yada translated “Know/”Knowledge”, recognize
To know is not to be intellectually informed about some abstract principle, but to apprehend and experience reality. Knowledge is not the possession of information, but rather its exercise. Put it into action

Hebrew root yādaʿ, translated “know”/“knowledge,”

So first we learned we must surrender our will to God by leaning on His understanding for the day and Now God is telling us to acknowledge Him by actually putting it into practice, take action. We do this by recognizing God is Lord and He alone will direct our steps.
We see a warning in:

9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

Praise God always, giving Him everything (to do this praise God for everything at that time)
Be not wise in your own eyes - Trust is to seek God’s wisdom
understand that the wisdom of this world does not compare to God’s

11  the LORD—knows the thoughts of man,

that they are but a breath.

19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours,

33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Mans wisdom does not even compare to the wisdom of God, our wisdom is just a vapor, a breath but God knows all and we are to humble our selves and seek His wisdom in all things.

9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

So we have learned
surrender our will to God every day
Praise God always
give Him everything (Praise God always and in everything)
recognize you know nothing (be humble) and wisdom comes from God
Fear the Lord (Reverence)
Fear the Lord (Reverence)
Definition - Respect/honor God! Be in awe of!
How can we fear/respect what you do not understand?
Moses says to the people

10 how on the day that you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, the LORD said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’

King David says

11  Come, O children, listen to me;

I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

By reading and hearing the word we are learning to fear the Lord. We are learning how righteous He is and Holy and how deserving He is of our praise.
So we have learned
surrender our will to God every day
give Him everything (Praise God always and in everything)
recognize you know nothing (be humble) and wisdom comes from God,
Read the word daily, Daily we should be in awe of who God is, reverence Him
Turn from evil
We must turn to God fully and with every intention. Now God knows we are human He created us but He still expects us to start following His ways. Some people get caught in the legalistic part of this but we have to remember when you trust God you jump on His back and He is the one helping you.
Be Self-controlled
surrender our will to God every day
give Him everything (Praise God always and in everything)
Be Self-controlled
recognize you know nothing (be humble) and wisdom comes from God, His word and a relationship with Him so you can hear His voice
Read the word daily, Daily we should be in awe of who God is, reverence Him
Be Self-controlled
Honor the Lord with your wealth and First Fruit
Trust God to supply your need
Paul’s final instruction to Tomothy

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

This more than just money this is giving everything to God. This just purely puts that trust into action.
So we have learned
Will - surrender our will to God every day
Verbally - give Him everything (Praise God always and in everything)
Wisdom - recognize you know nothing (be humble) and wisdom comes from God,
Mind - Read the word daily, Daily we should be in awe of who God is, reverence Him
Actions - Be Self-controlled
Provisions - Honor the Lord with our wealth
Be confident in that God is who He says He is!
Jeremiah 17:7–8 ESV
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8
How 2

To Trust the Lord we must spiritually abide in Him. Here is what the scriptures says about abiding in the Lord

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Walk the walk - the tight rope

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

This is Jesus we should do what He did. What did He do
He Prayed
Prayer
Fasting (Jesus Fasted)
He Fasted but what is the point of Fasting?
Fasting
14 Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
While Jesus was on this earth the Disciples experienced a close relationship with Jesus. However, for us Jesus is not here physically so what can we do to experience this close relationship?
Fast
God is desiring a deeper relationship with you, will you Fast?
Hear from God
Workout our salvation

2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Break through
14 Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? 14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Revelation 3:20 ESV
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
John 14:23 ESV
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Psalm 91:1 ESV
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

Fellowship
We need to hear from God and understand His ways, one way we do this is through His word

9  Then my enemies will turn back

in the day when I call.

This I know, that God is for me.

10  In God, whose word I praise,

in the LORD, whose word I praise,

11  in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.

What can man do to me?

4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:

Fellowship ;

13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Summary:

Relationship
Impossible becomes possible
Impossible becomes the norm
Jesus raised people from the dead
village of Nain, Jesus and his disciples encountered a funeral procession. The only son of a widow
But Jesus said to Jairus, "Don’t be afraid; only believe, and your daughter will be healed." "My child, get up."
Lazarus - Tomb for four days
Tabatha - Peter - "Tabitha, get up." She sat up and Peter gave her to her friends alive.
Eutychus - Paul - Sitting on a windowsill, the young man Eutychus dozed off, falling out of the window to his death. Paul rushed outside and threw himself on the lifeless body. Immediately Eutychus came back to life.

Summary:

So many times we as Christians get stuck at step 1. Hey we have faith that Jesus is who He says He is but then we do not see/experience His joy, piece, patience, love, power, strength in our lives and we wonder why. Well I am telling you today it is because you have not put you trust in Him and jumped on His back. We must first put our faith in Him then start to sway with Him, not fighting to go our own way.
Summary:
Trust involves our:
Will - surrender our will to God every day
Verbally/Mouth - give Him everything (Praise God always and in everything)
Wisdom - recognize you know nothing (be humble) and wisdom comes from God,
Mind - Read the word daily, Daily we should be in awe of who God is, reverence Him
Actions - Be Self-controlled
Provisions - Honor the Lord with our wealth
We give these things to God THEN He will make our path straight and that relationship you have always wanted is found in Him. Christ will be over whelmed with joy to spend time with you.
