The Exodus
The Exodus
God saw the need and proactively moved to rescue
God saw the need and proactively moved to rescue
Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen.

Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses. Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.
We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

gaL 2:!5-16
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.
You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
They were being tricked into going backwards
They were being tricked into going backwards
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
Not only are you free from the ultimate penalty of your sins, you are free from the need to earn God’s favor. It is a gift to you in Christ for all who are born again.
Opportunity to Sin
Opportunity to Sin
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Those who are under the error of attempting to earn favor don’t need this warning, but those who grasp liberty in Christ, or also those who fail to grasp the weight of the law do.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.
“I am free to do what I want to do; my ticket has been punched for Heaven and I am free.”
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
What do you desire?
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.
1kings 19:
What then is the standard?
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
Are you fighting sin or excusing and embracing it?
Are you in step with the spirit, or just your gut?
The great news is that for freedom Christ has set us free. God help us to not fall away, needlessly walking in sinful patterns, and to recognize sinful desires as a willful slavery to be avoided. May we truly delight in The Lord.
