On Eagle's Wings
ON EAGLE’S WINGS
EXODUS 19:3-6
3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
I. ON EAGLE’S WINGS GOD CARRIED THEM OUT OF EGYPT
A. EGYPT REPRESENTED AN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION
1. Without the intervention of God, Israel would be hopelessly bound in slavery in Egypt.
2. God asks Abraham; Genesis 18:14 “Is anything too hard for the LORD? “And Jeremiah answers; 32:17 “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
3. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 19:26 “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
B. EGYPT ALSO REPRESENTS CAPTIVITY TO SIN
C. ROMANS 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
D. WE ARE REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB AND THE POWER OF GOD.
II. ON EAGLES’ WINGS, GOD CARRIED THEM THROUGH THE WILLDERNESS
A. GOD CARRIES HIS PEOPLE THROUGH THE WILDERNESS
1. The wilderness of sickness, discouragement, death of a loved one, financial stress.
2. The wilderness of marital pressure family problems, ministry challenges.
3. God seldom immediately takes us out of our wilderness experience, but He always brings us through
B. ISRAEL FACED TWO WILDERNESS EXPERIENCES
1. The wilderness of faith en route to the Promised Land
2. Later, the wilderness of disobedience for 40 years.
C. THE WILDERNESS IS A PART OF LIFE (JOHN 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” God used the wilderness experiences….
1. To display His power. He alone would bring them through.
2. To defeat their enemies. It was in the wilderness that they met and conquered many of them.
3. To speak His word in undisturbed solitude
4. To test them
D. THE GOD OF THE WILDERNESS STILL PROVIDES….
1. Manna from heaven
2. Water from the rock
3. The pillar of fire at night to protect
4. The cloud by day to guide
5. Shekinah glory to fill our hearts as He filled the Tabernacle to remind us that God is in the midst of His people, and He will bring them through
III. ON EAGLES’ WINGS, GOD CARRIED THEM INTO THE PROMISED LAND
A. GOD ALWAYS DIRECTS US TOWARD HIS PROMISE FOR OUR LIVES
1. “A land flowing with milk and honey”
2. The promised land was not perfect
3. There were enemies to face, battles to fight, temptations to conquer, cities to build, vineyards to plant.
B. GOD BRINGS US OUT OF SIN FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF BRINGING US INTO A LIFE OF PROMISE.
1. The promise represents life lived in the fullness of His presence and blessing
2. The Promise is connected with God’s purpose for our lives.
3. The blessing abides where His will is obeyed and His purpose fulfilled.
Perhaps you need to be carried by God. You are not alone in your situation. God knows where you are, and he cares. He has a promise for you: “I will carry you on eagles’ wings out of impossible situations, through the wilderness, and into the fullness of My purpose for your life.”
