Psalm 91
ETS: The psalmist described in great detail his dependence on and confidence in God.
ESS: When the world around us seems insecure and uncertain, we can turn to God to find security.
PQ: How does the Psalmist describe our security in God?
UW: ANGLES
- Our first angle will be to consider the circumstances which the Psalmist described as threatening.
- The snare of the fowler (v. 3) – a trap
- Pestilence (v. 3, 5, 6, 10) – plague
- Accidents (v. 12)
- Deadly attacks (v. 13) – lion, snake
- Uncertainty, dread (v. 5) terror of the night
- Next, let’s come at this from the angle of the ways in which God indicates He will provide for our security.
- He provides a shelter and place of refuge (v. 4).
- He will provide a shield and place of defense (v. 4).
- He will send His angels to intervene on our behalf (v. 11).
- He gives us the ability to call on Him in our time of need (v. 15).
- Finally, we need to consider the key elements to entering into this security.
- The first way we find security in God is by making our declaration or confession of faith in Him (v. 1-2).
- We find security in God when we make him our dwelling place (v. 9).
- We find security in God when we hold fast to Him and call on His name (v. 15).
