Exodus 2:1-10

I.    God’s calling of the heart.

A.    Moses’ faith conquers Moses’ standing. (Acts 7:22-23; Heb 11:24-26).

Acts 7:22-24

22  "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.

23  "Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

Heb 11:24-26

24  By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,

25  choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,

26  esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

B.    Notice Moses’ learning was not wrong. God uses people with knowledge, intelligence.

C.    But we must never allow our brain to overrule our heart. Our wisdom is foolishness before God, when used to guide the thoughts and intents of our heart.

D.    FAITH is required of every person. The faith to refuse the allurements of this world, and instead choosing the afflictions of Christ.

E.    Only FAITH will allow you to see the reproach of Christ as more valuable than riches. I see some who are driven in their christian life to make directives on the basis of money, rather than faith. It causes more divisions, and is truly the root of all sorts of evil.

II.  Man’s Timing.

A.    Moses runs ahead of God’s timing.

Exodus 2:11

11  Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.

Acts 7:24-25

24  "And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian.

25  "For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand.

Exodus 2:12-15

12  So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13  And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, "Why are you striking your companion?"

14  Then he said, "Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" So Moses feared and said, "Surely this thing is known!"

B.    Zealous for God’s will in his life. But ran ahead of God.

1.     We often calculate our own work for God. Instead of waiting for him, we avenge for Him.

2.     We think we are doing God’s will, or at least doing God a service. (Acts 7:25).

3.     Moses had been raised this way, and knew no other. But God had prepared for him to deliver in a way he could have never imagined.

4.     Sometimes we get into our heart not only his will, but how we are going to accomplish it. That is when we allow the flesh to rule our decisions.

C.    Moses runs away into the very arms of God; Mt. Sinai. (Exodus 2:15-22).

III. God’s perfect timing. (Exodus 2:23-25).

Exodus 2:23-25

23  Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

24  So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25  And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.

A.    Process of time. This is another way of saying in God’s time.

B.    Progression of prayer. Cried – came up – heard – remembered – looked – acknowledged.

C.    God has a timing for the affliction and needs in your life. Moses had no way of knowing how wonderfully God was to work out that through his life. Neither can we.
