2 SAM 12:
The Hebrew paints a better picture of David’s response…It reads David’s nostrils began to flare as he was listening to this story…and notice his judgment v.5 “this man deserves to die and shall restore the lamb four fold” Thats pretty over the top judgment for a guy who stole a lamb right?
What’s really happening here?
David is overcompensating right now
David is overcompensating right now
David’s guilt is doing the talking
Notice how harsh his judgment towards this rich man - V.5 He deserves to die - there some violations in God’s law that are punishable by death.
stealing another man’s sheep is not one of them…so we know for David…this is the guilt talking

Truth: The hardest sin to see is yours
It was truthful and specific - A lot of sin can be hidden by generalizing it…But Nathan told David exactly what he had done - You stole another man’s wife, you murdered the man….by
doing that you despised the word of the LordIt wasn’t enough for David to confess that he was a sinner in a general sense; he had to confess his sin at this very point.Illustrate: We generalize our sin, we generally lie about it as well“J.
Edwin Orr tells of a time of revival in Brazil when a lady stood in a crowded church and said, “Please pray for me.
I need to love people more.”
The leader gently told her, “That is not confession, sister.
Anyone could have said it.”
Later in the service the woman stood again and said, “Please pray for me.
What I should have said is that my tongue has caused a lot of trouble in this church.”
Her pastor whispered to the leader, “Now she’s talking.”
App: David would listen to Nathan’s personal rebuke…Because Nathan had always been personally encouraging to David
