Joshua 5:13-15; 6:1-5, 10-11, 15-18, 20

Introduction:

This story reminds us that we serve an awesome God. God is awesome because He is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscience. God is at his best in this story, no weapon can destroy Him, and no wall can withstand Him.

Main Point of the Message:

This story shows us that victory is possible for every believer who places their faith in God. (Exodus 14:14-15; Hebrews 11:1, 6).

Background and Biblical Context:

The nation of Israel left Egypt on their way toward Canaan, the Promised Land. God led them through 40 years of wilderness wanderings. In Joshua 5, God brought Israel across the Jordan River to city called, Jericho.

Jericho was: a walled city (Joshua 6:5), a wayward city (Joshua 6:17-18), a city with a woman, named Rahab, who showed extraordinary faith in God (Joshua 2:1-21; 6:17). Jericho was a symbol of power and strength for its inhabitants. However, these walls were no match for our God.

Key Question:

How can we experience victory over the “Jericho’s” that we face?

Points:

1. Consider it Done (Joshua 5:13-15; 6:2; II Cor. 10:4).
• A child of God does not worry or fret (Lk. 18:1).
• Be anxious for nothing writes Paul to the church at Philippi (Phil. 4:6).

• Joshua told the people to surround the city one time for six days, but be silent when walking.
• On the seventh day, they were to shout along with the rams horn.
