“Permissiveness is like saying to a kid, ‘No, you’re not going to do it and that’s semi-final,’” he said. “It’s letting your child do whatever he likes on the premise that if he gets killed doing it, he won’t do it again. These days you can give your teenager a car. You can give him an allowance. You can give him your brand-new sports jacket. But you cannot tell him to ‘have a good time.’ He will glare at you and say, ‘Don’t tell me what to do.’”
