The word says that even the disciples were confused.

We must embrace the crucifixion of Christ.

We must embrace the Christ of the crucifixion.

You must know Jesus to follow Jesus.

1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 “Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?” 6 They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. 7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. 10 Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”

Caught in the act. Where is the man?

They were testing him.

If he condones capital punishment, he would violate Roman law because the Jews would have to see their approval.

They knew Jesus was compassionate toward sinners, and if he said to let her go, He would be abandoning the Law.

Jeremiah 17:13 NASB95

13 O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away on earth will be written down, Because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the Lord.

Some argue that this was to fulfil prophesy in Jeremiah, but its pretty vague.

Some argue that the Priest was required to write the crime and the accusers in the sand.

Some argue that he needed time to think of an answer.

I think it was to demonstrate that the Pharisees had free will.

He who is without sin, throw the first stone.

I do not condemn you, either, Go. sin no more.

God gives us free will

If God didn’t want me to sin, he wouldn’t let me. He would stop me from it.

Be persistent. Pray, read, meditate.

Matthew 7:1–5 NASB95

Matthew 7:

Our number one

The only purpose we have to address the sin of another believer is to draw them closer to Jesus.

And that is only after we address the sin in our own life.

Church discipline is a prime example. The purpose is to restore a brother or sister.

Jesus hasn’t come to Judge the world yet.

17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
