A. Faith is the action of loyally trusting God
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
a. The gift of faith is not general faith
1. General faith saves
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
2. General faith comes through hearing
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
3. General faith grows
3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.

B. The spiritual gift of faith is special faith

a. This gift is the Supernatural empowerment of faith given by the Holy Spirit as he chooses
1. Smith Wigglesworth said that “if u will take a step o ordinary faith, when u come 2 the end o that faith, very often this supernatural gift o special faith will take over.”
i. where general faith saves, the gift of faith only comes to those who already trust in Jesus

C. Daniel had the gift of Faith
23 Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
b. remember that ,baptism in the H.S. was given, but only 2 Kings, Priests, & Prophets…Dan. had the baptism in the H.S.
12 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”
Dan 6:
1. Dan is being brought 2 the king because he can interpret dreams
i. but the point I want 2 make is: “an excellent spirit” was in him (dan 6:3)…I believe he was baptized in H.S.
-The folks writing this just didn’t have the full understanding o what the spirit was up 2.

a. The gift of faith often is given during great opportunities for fear
1. Trust here is the same word as faith…This was a supernatural faith that God would protect him

2. I started 2 tell u about the day we got word the tribe would come to take James...
i. We felt like we were cast in2 the lion’s den & the devil was going 2 devour the Promise God gave us
ii. but, like Dan, Rebekah looked @ those lion’s & trusted God w/a supernatural faith & guess who’s still w/us?!

we don’t often consider Jesus’ life when discussing gifts o the spirit
but Jesus operated w/ the gifts of healing, prophecy, words of knowledge, words of wisdom, discerning of spirits, & yes, gift of faith
This might seem bizarre to us that jesus was empowered by the Spirit since he is the Son of God, but
He set all his rights and privileges aside when he came down to earth
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
& he became Spirit empowered
10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Mk 1:10
So Jesus lived as the perfect ex. o Spirit empowered living!
How was Jesus empowered supernaturally w/ faith?
(tell the story o calming the sea)
So, what was Jesus doing?
38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
Jesus was empowered w/the gift of faith so that while his whole environment was in chaos (frm the weather 2 the people), he was sleeping

-folks with General faith, when faced w/the finality o death ultimately r left w/grief
-but Peter knew that there was a greater gift…the supernatural trust 4 God to do the impossible
-what did Peter do???
Acts 9:40
40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.
-this gift isn’t hope
it’s not wishing upon a star
The gift of faith isn’t performing miracles or healing
it was the supernatural trust in God which allowed him to act…performing the miracle o bringing the dead to life, & healing o the illness so she stayed that way.
a. The gift of faith often is given to trust God for the impossible
1. Empowered by a supernatural faith Peter spoke to a dead person to arise
i. There were other gifts at play here (healing, working of miracles), but...
-Peter rec. a supernatural gift of faith beyond what is common 4 every follower of Jesus
*this gift isn’t hope
*it’s not wishing upon a star
*The gift of faith isn’t performing miracles or healing
-it was the supernatural trust in God which allowed him to act
*performing the miracle o bringing the dead to life, & healing o the illness so she stayed that way were separate gifts o the spirit…there were 3 gifts @work here
*I’m also not saying that all miracles must be acompanied by the gift of faith
III. CONCLUSION
A. The ultimate lion: death
a. This lion’s den is the grave
b. Like Dan Jesus was thrown in2 the lion’s den…4 the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of god is eternal life in Christ Jesus
1. This ultimate lion devours the spirit…4 the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of god is eternal life in Christ Jesus
2. This time, the ultimate lion tried to devour Jesus, but what the devil meant 4 evil God used 4 the good of all humanity!
i. Jesus lived a perfect life, took upon himself the penalty of our sin through death, & there was shut up in a tomb & sealed w/a huge stone
-then concurred death by coming back 2 life in Glory!!
ii. So that all who believe will rec. eternal life in Christ Jesus!
