▸ Sermon 4.3.29a 6.10.2019 Believe
• Christ=
▾ Tuesday Repentance
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

▾ Sins=
▾ Sermon 4.3.29b 6.11.2019 Repentance
▾ Intro:
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
▾ Entice: Remind me again, why are you even here? There are fun things to do, and interesting things to learn at camp. But it is also serious business. Tonight you may hear some
• How?
things you don't want to hear. I won't apologize because repentance is a central part to the process of salvation it is all over the Bible. But it is a three-dollar word with lots of
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved
syllables. We throw it at you and you may not even know what it means. Tonight Ima gonna 'splain it.
▾ Conclusion:
The Message of Repentance rings aloud from Genesis to Revelation.
• Engage: Are there some things about your life you need to change? Even at your tender young age? Repentance is where you react to God as a whole person.
So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
• Expand: I want you to know what exactly repentance is. I repent. Why I repent, and why you should as well. I want to establish the idea from the New Testament…and then I want

to point out some things that you might do to keep from repenting before God.

▾ Thursday=Baptism
• Explore: Real repentance is not the first step to salvation…and it's not the last, but it is essential.
▾ Introduction: Important?
• Explain:
• In the NT after the preaching of the Gospel every conversion culminates in Baptism
▾ Body of Sermon
• There is a rich spiritual (theological) focus on the meaning, purpose, and results of baptism.
▾ Repentance Defined:
• Jesus likely walked 60-70 mies from Nazareth to Jordan river to be Baptized by John.
J.W. McGarvey "a change of mind, caused by a sorrow for sin, leading to a reformation of life."
▾ The Procedure for Baptism.
• Change of mind…
• Water=
• Sorrow for sin....
And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
• Reformation of life.
• Much Water=
▾ Repentance Illustrated:
John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized
• Going to the Water=
For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.
Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan,
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
• Going down into the Water=
And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’
• Coming out of the Water. &
▾ Repentance Motivated (why?)
And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
▾ Goodness and love of God
And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.
▾ The Person for Baptism.
“I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.””
▾ Penitent believer in Christ.
( ESV)
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
• Sorrow For Sin
Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, together with his entire household. And many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized.
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
▾ Fear of Judgment
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
▾ One Willing to Confess Christ.
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart you may.” And he replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
“No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.””
▾ Repentance Hindered
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
• Pride
▾ The Purpose of Baptism.
• Passion
▾ To be saved.
• Procrastination
▾ Time to Change.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
• After we swim we change our cloths. When your little sister has a wet diaper…someone changes it. Every so often your Dad changes the oil in the car. Not all changes are good.
Not all are bad. It's amazing how adaptable we are. Really, change is about as hard as you want to make it.
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
• The change we are talking about today are essential if you want to live for God, if you want to follow the Way-maker and be a Way-maker for others.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

• Lesson(s) about the Holy Spirit, Miracles, sign-gifts.
But miracles, according to Acts, aren’t just fireworks that make people “ooh!” and “aah!” They are visible attestations of the verbal proclamation of the gospel. They confirm and verify the words as true. For this reason, it makes sense that miracles don’t happen all the time and that they are clustered around key points in redemptive history.
