Focuses on the female heroes of the Bible.
Bible gets criticized a lot for being male dominated.
Both women and men have much to learn from these women. (Deborah, Mary, Ruth, and Esther)
All these women are in historical narratives (like any history). We’ll spend time on a bit of biographical background, move into commnetary, but really what you’ll want to pay attention to: “qualities to copy.”
Info. w/o integration never leads to transformation.

Biography:

Turn your bibles to
Lit. her name means: “honeybee”.
Know nothing about hubby.
She was a seer, oracle, prophetess. Among 3: Miriam, Huldah, and Anna.
She is a unique judge: female, not a military or political leader. Her job was to sort out justice and speak God’s Words to the people.
She could have gone to war. But God had her call Barak to lead the armies.

Barak’s response

Much like God gave Aaron to help Moses, so God called Deborah to literally go into battle.

He invites her to support. And the saying is true: know that the way you’re doing things, will bring glory to a woman. He doesn’t seem hung up about it.
Deborah responds to the call
Read:
vs. 10 = “went up” —> go up into battle.
They win the battle. God uses prob. a thunderstorm to cause a flood to stop chariots.
Read:
Sisera gets away on foot. Finds Jael’s hut. She feeds him, he falls asleep, she kills him. Barak shows up, but the credit for the final blow goes to Jael. God can use anyone.
Deborah writes a victory song. Again, she doesn’t do it alone. She invites Barak.
