Faith - it is assured trust and believe in God even though He is unseen. True faith is demonstrate by obedience to God. It is the willingness to risk everything for Him by abandoning all self-reliance and putting full confidence in God, His Word, and His promises.
What does faith look like in real life?
Sitting on the chair analogy. Faith is like YIELDING your weight into an object. You trust that this chair can support you and it would not break down and make you fall and break your tailbone. Often time, you do not need to think twice before sitting because the chair is build to be sat on.
Flying on an airplane. You do not (always) see the pilot.
Faith vs. Blind Faith
Secular society thinks that believing in a God or in a supernatural being is “blind faith.”
What do you think is “blind faith?” (DISCUSSION)
Does God want us to have blind faith?
Blind faith has many different meanings for different people. It is usually used with a negative connotation. A definition of blind faith could be this: “belief without true understanding, perception, or discrimination.” In other way to put is to believe in something without questioning it and thinking rationally about it.
What this looks like is that you believe in something because someone told you so, the textbook says so or the internet says so without being able to see the “something.”
Regarding God, because we cannot see Him or there is no evidence that God exists, secular society would say that is blind faith.
I say to you, “All politicians tell the truth.”
“You will receive gifts on Christmas Day.
“God created the world in six days.”
Is faith - as described in the Bible - blind faith?
I invite you to turn to the . It is a book just before James. is the probably the most important chapter when it comes to understanding “faith.”
Let’s read verses 1-3. READ
Faith - believing in someone or something on the basis of reliability.
In this case, we believe in God who is not seen.
Verse 3 describes faith as believing that the universe was created by God through His Words. Where in the Bible do we read that the universe was created by the word of God?
Answer: Genesis
Genesis describes the origin of the universe.
Scientists also want to understand how the universe works and how the universe begun.
Faith is in of itself is “blind” but it is not blind faith. The Bible never uses the phrase “blind faith,” but faith in things that are unseen.
Does God want us to have blind faith?
How can you know if something or someone is trustworthy?
Faith in something that can be seen is not faith!
Live by faith and not by sight.
