Matt 6:
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
There was once a boy who was given a doller and a quarter by his mother who told him to put one in the plate and kee the other. When his mother asked him which one he gave he replyed “I was going to give the doller but when the preache said I should be cherful in giving I knew I would be alot mor chearful if I gave the Quarter.

Paul is asking the Church in corenth to take up an offering for the poor in mesopotania
the Churches in Mesopotania=Philippi, Thessalonica, and Berea
I. Earthy tresure (v. 19)
II. Heavenly tresure (V.20-21)
III. The eye
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.”
9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.
11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also.
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.

1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
I. Experience God’s Grace (V. 1-3)
1 We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that was given to the churches of Macedonia: 2 During a severe trial brought about by affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 I can testify that, according to their ability and even beyond their ability, of their own accord,

this is refering to there salvation. There experience of God’s grace in salvation led them to generocity
-Just as our salvation should lead us to not sin it Should also lead us to further the work of God through giving to Christ’s church.
Giving sacrificially is a source of abundnt joy
Biblical generocity is not giving the minimum. It is about giving it all to an all powerful all loving God a God who gave everything in His son Jesues Christ
Giving affirms Christ’s lordship in takes us off the throne and exaults our great God.
God does not need our money He wants proof that we trust him completly
He will bless faithfulness, but not how some say such as best life now if you only give to the church you will get that and more back
don’t misunderstand me im saying to stop giving but sacrificial is the key and 10% is usually a good place to start.
Instead of asking how much should I give a better question is How much should I keep.
We need to reconize that God is sufficiant to meet and to exeed our needs
titheing can be leaglistic if we do it with an attidtude of “ok Ive done my part time to move on”
If our hearts and our lives are not surendered to God then generous giveing will be hard. When our life is surenderd to God then money goes along with it
if we love the world and the things of the world then our love for God is supperficial
Debt the average american houshold has 67,509 unsecured debt
“sacrificial giving is not giving byond your means it is giving close to our means we are not to give money we do not have. because we are to mannage our housholds well.
1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord,
1 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
Wealth and generosity
The Churches in maccdonian churches experience adversity though hardships yet they displayed generousity for the sake of others theese churches are an example of Paul’s ministery
the Churches give willingly and sacrificially
Paul further explaines thr nature of the remarkable generosity of the churches in mesopotania. “They gave acording to their means as I can testify.”
This phrase according to the means was verry common in this day and would have also been found in marriage contracts where a husband would have promiced to provide for his wife in accordence with his means.
Paul continues though that they had contributed to the collection of the poor in a way that was over and above anything that could be expected givin their situation.
of their own accord
Paul makes the point that they had done this by their own free will.
II. Experience Generosety (V4-5)
4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
They were begging the apposles for oppertunities to Give
not only were they giving they are looking for oppertunities to give
We should be doing the same We should be looking for oppertunities to give. In this specific istence the giving was the releif of the saints
in our context this would be the deacon’s fund.
If we give ourselves to the Lord first then intern we will want to give finacially
