Why Differnt Sunday night
So we can deal with things tht can not be delt with in preaching
They key is practical decipleship
I will eventilly have a name for it but I am not sure what that is yet.
Some may say I have been on the mission field or been a pastor for 20+ years I don’t need decipleship.
We all need decipleship and there is something we all can learn.

Communication intro

What are the four rules?
Act Don’t React
Attack The Problem not the Person
Keep Current
Be honest

Many times, problems occur because people do not understand each other. This can be due to not listening or failure to get the facts by asking questions

James 3:1–12 KJV 1900
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Jamew 3:1-12

James 5:12 KJV 1900
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

James 3:1–4 KJV 1900
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
One day our lives will be tested by our Words.
James here makes reference to the fact that those who teach the word will be held to a higher standard of accountability
there are multiple warnings and admonitions in the scripture to those who teach doctrine.

Just as teachers will be held responsible for their words everyone will be held accountable for theirs

Matthew 12:36–37 KJV 1900
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Think about it: If Jesus stepped into the room right now and gave an update on your words over the last week what would it look like
What have you said this week that you need to go back and ask forgiveness for?
What have you said this week that you need to go back and ask forgivness for?
your accountability at the Judgement seat will be in part determined by your words
your accountability at the Judgement seat will be in part determined by your words
2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV 1900
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
It is not a mistake to connect sins of the tongue with sins committed by the whole Body.
There was a phrase that started in world war to that goes like this
“Loose lips sink ships”
loose lips also ruin lives.

Question: How often do you think physical abuse is preceded by Verbal abuse
Question: How often do you think sinful actions are preceded by sinful words.
It usully starts with the tounge…but that is not quite deep enough
the heart is the source of all sin
James 1:26 KJV 1900
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Your words are an x-ray of your heart!
How a person communicates or uses his/her tongue is a test of a person’s faith
your speech reflects
your view of God and what he says about authority
How a person communicates or uses his/her toungh is a test of a persons faith
Your view of God and His ability to help you solve problems
your speach reflects
your view of God and what he says about marriage
your view of God and what he says about authority
your view of God and what he says about how to build a strong family
Your view of God and His ability to help you solve problums
your view of God and what he says about marriage
your view of God and what he says about how to build a strong family
Matthew 15:19 KJV 1900
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
The bottom line is when we have problems with our words, we have problems with our heart.
The answer is not to clean up our words its to clean up our heart!
The reason people don’t change or grow in this area is they only focus on the outword affects instead of dealing with the heart, the inne man.
The tounge has the power to Bring distruction to marriage families and Churches.
it does not take much for words to destroy!
A fire reportedly started in the O’Leary barn in Chicago at 8:30 P.M., October 8, 1871; and because that fire spread, over 100,000 people were left homeless, 17,500 buildings were destroyed, and 300 people died. It cost the city over $400 million.  The “Great Chicago Fire.”
Proverbs says this

Proverbs says this
Proverbs 26:20–21 KJV 1900
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: So where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. 21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
Prov 2
Proverbs 26:20 ESV
20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.
It does not take much because words are powerful.
Just like a fire our words can hurt and destroy relationships
Sometimes it is importent to just stop and be silent
sometimes you need to stop and think
sometimes you need to stop and get council and advice before you answer a matter
The tounge has the power to direct relationships…destroy relationships… and
The tongue has the power to Bring delight
Question: What can be the resault of careful words?
Proverbs 15:23 NKJV
23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!
The tounge has great potenttial to Build relationships
a heart that is bitter or angry can not produce loving words
Matthew 7:18 KJV 1900
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Matthew 7:20 KJV 1900
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Joy comes by doing what God intended you to do with your tounge (speak eddifying speach)
That is the point! Do what He designed you to do
Questions for you to ponder
How am I doing with my tongue
if everyone spoke the way I do would God be praised
DoI need to ask forgiveness for any misuse of the tongue God gave me?
