* Premature Placement is a Predicament
* Premature Placement is a Predicament
A King at 16 years old?!
The predicament fleshes itself out in:
Who do we listen to?
Who am I to be accountable to?
How to govern wisely...
When do I make decisions on my own?
Why should I listen to someone else?
* Promising Predictions Don’t Guarantee Permanence

Uzziah reigned for 52 years and lost his legacy in less than an hour! More on that in a bit...
Look at his resume of military might and governmental provisions.
divisions of the army
not more, just better trained!
better weapons
machines of war...
* Pride leads to Perversions of Power

Uzziah reigned for 52 years and lost his legacy in just a few hours!
v. 15 - marvelously helped UNTIL he became strong!
What a curious verse! Why then? What makes the help go away when he is strong?!
PRIDE subtly entered the picture and the KING entered into a realm that was not his!!
The king was not called to do the priestly duties! The tribe of Levi was called to do that!
Three Perversions of Power we see here and in our world today. Caused by Pride and Self Confidence.
Caused by Pride and Self Confidence.
(1) Intimidation We can use our power to push others around, especially those who are too weak or afraid to push back. Using power in that way is ungodly and harmful. Ultimately such power users destroy themselves, for their subordinates serve them without loyalty and with increasing resentment.
(2) False accusations We can use our power to make snap decisions and judgments. But power used in that way keeps us in the dark, since others will be too afraid to tell us when we’re wrong. When things go awry, it’s all too easy to start blaming people under us and around us.
(3) Discontent If we use our power in self-centered, hurtful ways, we’ll tend to increase our appetite for power and seek more, perhaps by pressuring superiors or by cheating and stealing.
The power of the gospel is a complete contrast to the power of intimidation, blame, and discontent.
Holy Spirit Power - the power of the gospel is a complete contrast to the power of intimidation, blame, and discontent.
Others focused/PEOPLE Focused - not self focused like Uzziah.
Outward Focused - not inward focused like Uzziah, focused on what HE wanted to do, and could do with only his power - HOLY SPIRIT will focus on what can be done THROUGH us in submission to greater power.
Not Entirely Predictable - behold, I am doing a NEW THING!
