Daily Bread

In light of Gods nature as our heavenly Father who cannot be related to our earthly fathers who fail us but is always faithful, and greatly cares for the needs of His creation, it brings into the proper light the petition of help in our temporal needs.

God is the one that has caused our bellies to hunger our hearts to beat and as he is the provider of all good things we should be a people to come to our Father with our needs.

The closer we get to our Father, great shepherd, we have a greater desire that His name be glorified, that His kingdom to come, and His will to be done.

For we know that He knows all things and works all things according to the counsel of His will.

We know have a change in shift that brings us out of the business of this world, the pressure to keep up with the jones, the lusts and passions that lure us on every corner, a culture never at rest and blown to a fro, that dwels in a fog of confusion and become elevated to see the Eternal God, with His Eternal plan who has never changed, is steadfast, and unmovable, who is mighty with power, wise with counsel, a light that peirces through the facade to reveal the truth to find ourselves proclaiming hallowed be your name, our hearts desiring to live for the KING and His Kingdom, and His will not ours to be done for now i clearly see.

It is in this clear light that we come forth to bring our temporal needs before the throne of God who is actively working to meet our needs.

IT is coming before our loving and Father to ask for what He alone can give.

Through this lense of the one who rightly understands this, does not pray to please men but the one to whom we cry.

God cares about our temporal needs necessary for life.

The problem comes when we begin to define what necessary for life entails.

This is a cry for the both the rich and the poor.

The poor have special interest in this prayer and the rich stand in need of it

Revelation describes the church of Laodicea as proclaiming to be rich but in all actuality wretched, poor, miserable, blind, and naked.

In both states with the proper understanding we should be a people who know how weak we are apart from the Father.

The clearest illustration we have of this truth and i have no doubt that even Christ alluded to this in His prayer is the children in the wilderness.

we find God coming to moses after the people complaining and saying that i have heard the complaints of the people and i am going to feed them.

This was not a complaint against moses but God.

God as provider, a heart of obedience and contentment for what God has provided, and an attitude that is thankful for the miracualous provision that God had provided.

God is our provider.

The children in the wilderness were ever aware of their need for Gods provision for only He could provide in such circumstances.

This was at the root of their complaining for they knew apart from a miracle they were going to perish for there was no food around.

A miracle was just what they got.

Though we may not be wandering in a desert we are dire need of the provisional support of our Father who is in heaven.

Apart from Him we have no food.

A Heart of Dependence

we do not trust in the provision but in the provider.

Its when we trust in the provision that we become hoarders or lazy.

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

If there is one cry from the mouth of a father it should be the one that acknowledges God has his faithful provider.

“Give Us”

We must ask them WITH HUMILITY AND SUBMISSION to the will of God. 1.

Not for ostentation and riot, that we may live at large and at ease, but that Thy name may be glorified, and that we may be supported in service.

2. We must not come and challenge it, as if it were our due.

3. We must not use the plea of merit, but of mercy.

With this cry of Humility and willing submission we plea for mercy not because it is owed to us but because He is the only one who can provide for us and desires to meet our needs.

He is constantly and actively working on our behalf.

Apart from God I have nothing.

This at times is easy when we are broke, in search of a job.

But when He brings us work, and maybe beyond even our needs that we begin to take his blessing and waste it upon our own desires and proclaiming with our heart thanks God but i no longer need you.

How quick this attitude comes upon us.

We also see in the cry of give us this day, is Gods gracious provision, with the call to go and gather.

There are great principles within the bible that God lays out for us for the man to His household that

Because of our provider and His faithfulness we have no need to worry.

Does not drive us to laziness but greater diligence.

Do not worry about tomorrow.

Look at my faithfulness to my creation and how i provide.

Though this lens we know that if God does that then certainly He will provide for us.

So if God is the provider and will faithfully care for us then there is a 2 natural out pourings that should spring from this provision.

Contentment for what has been provided and obedience to His commands.

This is because apart from these two we will neglect to properly acknowledge God as provider.

“Give us This day our daily bread”

We must esteem (1) God’s providence our surest estate; (2) God’s bounty our best treasure; and (3) God’s Fatherly care our most certain and most comfortable support.

V. We learn to ask only for so much as shall be fit to maintain us, not for (1) rich or plentiful store; not for (2) full barns nor (3) heaps of treasures, wherewith to pamper ourselves; but for (4) daily bread, a moderate provision then to be dealt to us when we need it.

In the wilderness God gave strict commands for how they were to gather.

Six days you shall gather but the seventh you shall rest.

In the six days take only what you need for today.

do not keep some overnight.

Nevertheless some did.

And when they arose they had worms and it stank.

They refused to obey God.

They were trusting in the provision rather than the provider.

When you trust in the provision that is when you say i have to gather all that i can for i do not know when it will come again.

You become a hoarder.

Not trusting in God who provides but rather it the immediate here and now before our face.

In response what they were clinging to later found itself out by stinking and being filled with worms.

Gods faithfulness to reveal the unworthiness of trusting in the provision.

1 timothy

Riches are uncertain not worthy of trust.

notice where he tells the rich to trust in.

The living God.

This is a cry for the both the rich and the poor.

Rather we are blind.

1 Timothy 6:7-10

Many of our lives stink and are full of worms for this very reason.

We have grown callous to the reality of our need for God daily, and now the bottom has fallen out the manna has got worms the stench is horendous because we have disobeyed the clear commands of God.

Do you notice the faithfulness to Gods laws you will reap what you sow.

The rest of the manna melted in the sun but that which was hidden was preserved that they may see the end of their hoarding.

Sow wisely

Then their is another side to Gods command that on the sixth day we are to gather double.

Now we see the other side of man to where He becomes so use to the provision of God he takes it for granted and grows lazy.

For there were those once again that didnt heed the clear command of God and when they arose on the seventh day they said…Ah i think i will go out and get me some manna.
