What is the problem here in this passage, those who were seriously committed to the old covenant, are facing a challenge, Jesus is the Teacher of the moment but his followers are not following the rules made by men … They were committed sincere people and they were having a hard time with Jesus since he always followed the Revealed Word of God but tended to ignore the things religious folks said you should do and when you should do them… These people were worshipping a model, a method, but not the Lord --

Jesus was here, preaching, loving and teaching but not following their pattern …

He taught how to pray - differently

how to love — deeper

how to worship — truthfully

and how to reach the world as the Jewish people were to have done ...

A New Wine skin

supple, fresh, flexible ...

The Holy Spirit

wind … born of the spirit … flexible, moving, consistent with the Word, adjustable, the purpose is primary and that is to reach the world,

Old Wine Skins

infliexible, may be soured, not adept for the move of the spirit, destroy rather than adjust, how to you stop admirng old wine - quit drinking it

Wesley and Whitfield

disciple methods still here, some of whit for heaven but movement died

Movements following the Spirit

flexible wine skins to work with the spirit, rigid wineskins are not worth much in time, wine sours, nothing good there,

New wineskins are pliable people who follow the bridegroom in his mission to the world in joy

That is normal for a Christian

fire in our bones to turn the world upside down, flexible in method, faithful to Word, moved by the spirit

what we are is not what God would have us be

Like a Sail

wine skin is like a sail, sailboats need a sail and they need wind and you have to be adjustable to move forward...

There is no place in the world that the wind of the Spirit is not blowing

Problem is not the Lord of the harvest

So… what to do

move the way the spirit blows

adjust and be flexible knowing that God states clearly he will be doing a new thing

methods should not be idols,

and should adjust as needs be

how do you know if you are doing this?

Souls are saved, discipled and in turn disicple others

that is the mark of a spirit filled follower of Jesus
