Purpose of Preaching

2 Timothy 4:2-3

I. Some maintain that modern preaching in churches has been misrepresented, and does not reflect the Biblical mandate.

A. That preaching was the method used to invoke the unsaved.

B. That open Bible study is the preferred method for believing churches.

C. That No one benefits from modern preaching and it produces dependency.

II. The Pauline epistles reveal a different story.

A. This preaching is to be carried out in the church. (2 Tim.4:2)

B. The manner in which it is to be done.

C. The purpose for it is disclosed.

1. Right doctrine. (23 times in Paul’s epistles. 17 times in Timothy and Titus)

2. That we don’t embrace doctrines of devils. (Like this one)
