2 Peter 1:1–4 NLT
1 This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. 2 May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. 3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
2 Peter 1:5 NLT
5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

2 Peter 1:6 AV
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
Patience: It is important to understand what this word is, and what it is not.
What it is not:
“Well, I’m just going to sit here and get beat up by the devil until Jesus shows up on a white horse to rescue me and make the devil sorry he ever picked on me.” “I sure hope it doesn’t take too long.”
ESV
NLT
Patience: Cheerful? Constancy? enduring and unchanging.

The word hupomeno is a compound of two words, hupo and meno. The word hupo means under or by, and the word meno means to stay or to abide. When compounded, they form the word hupomeno, one of the strongest words in the New Testament. It depicts a person who knows he is in the right place — hence, regardless of the pressure, assaults, or restraints that are forced upon him, he has decided that he will not bend, bow, or break under that pressure. He has simply decided that this is his spot, and nothing is going to move him from it. It is an unrelenting decision to hold fast to that spot and not be moved for any reason.....You see, when hupomeno is working in your life, it’s not a question of if you will win; it’s just a matter of time until you win! Eventually, the enemy himself gets tired and surrenders. And when he flees, everything you’ve believed to see will begin to come together.
Hebrews 6:10–12 ESV
10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Fade in Faith, Patience Promise.
Hebrews 6:12 AMP
12 In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises.
Even when suffering (AMP 2015)

The Promise

Hebrews 6:13–15 ESV
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.
Hebrews 6:16–19 ESV
16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,
2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 NLT
20 For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20 The Message
20 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) 20  For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT2) 20  For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (MSG) 20  Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God's Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident.

What is a Promise?

Anything He says........to You!

So we take His promise and add our Next.

Yes! our Amen (So Be It.) Our.....

Faith!

I believe that promise is truth to me.
Talking about the Children of Isreal not entering the Promise Land
PROMISE LAND
Hebrews 3:16–18 NKJV
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?
Obey? Not entering the Promise Land was disobeying!
Hebrews 3:19 AV
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:19 AMP
19 So we see that they were not able to enter [into His rest], because of their unwillingness to adhere to and trust in and rely on God [unbelief had shut them out].
Hebrews 4:1–2 NKJV
1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
They did not mix their faith with the Promise. The Promise Land was a bumper sticker to them. It was not a Possession.

Elijah

1 Kings 18:1 ESV
1 After many days the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the earth.”
Emphasis I will - God’s part.
Man’s Part: Go, show yourself to Ahab:
1 Kings 18:2 ESV
2 So Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.
End of Story: They live happily ever after. .....Fad in Now the famine.

What affect, does adding “Now the famine was severe in Samaria” have on God’s promise? On His ability to keep His Promise?

None at all.
The Only Limiter to this Promise?

Background and vs 20
1 Kings 18:20–21 ESV
20 So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel. 21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

Background and vs 36
1 Kings 18:36–38 ESV
36 And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. 37 Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
Fade in “I have done all these things at your word”
Background: They round up the false prophets and kill them.
Has Elijah

1 Kings 18:41 ESV
41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is a sound of the rushing of rain.”
Go Up and Eat: Before one raindrop falls, Elijah instructs Ahab to go celebrate the end of the drought. How can he do that? He had a promise. Continue: Not a drop has fallen. I hear it. the rushing of rain.

41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”
1 Kings 18:41 NLT
41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!”
Where is he hearing this? Where do we hear?
1 Kings 18:41–43 ESV
41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is a sound of the rushing of rain.” 42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Mount Carmel. And he bowed himself down on the earth and put his face between his knees. 43 And he said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” And he went up and looked and said, “There is nothing.” And he said, “Go again,” seven times.

Side Journey

Luke 7:1–3 ESV
1 After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2 Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. 3 When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant.
Luke 7:4–5 ESV
4 And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, 5 for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.”
Luke 7:6 ESV
6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
Luke 7:7 ESV
7 Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.
Luke 7:8 ESV
8 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Luke 7:9 ESV
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”
Highlight Faith.
Luke 7:10 ESV
10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.

My Faith is my servant:

Keep Your Faith Active.
1 Kings 18:42–43 ESV
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Mount Carmel. And he bowed himself down on the earth and put his face between his knees. 43 And he said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” And he went up and looked and said, “There is nothing.” And he said, “Go again,” seven times.
Never allow your faith to accept anything less than what God has promised you. Patience. Keep applying the pressure on the enemy.
1 Kings 18:44 ESV
44 And at the seventh time he said, “Behold, a little cloud like a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” And he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down, lest the rain stop you.’ ”
Not a drop of rain Ahab.... get out of here it is about to storm.
1 Kings 18:44 NASB95
44 It came about at the seventh time, that he said, “Behold, a cloud as small as a man’s hand is coming up from the sea.” And he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down, so that the heavy shower does not stop you.’ ”
Review:
Elijah has a promise. And not a single drop of rain.
Elijah has a victory. And not a single drop of rain.
Elijah has everyone celebrating a the end of the drought. And not a single drop of rain.
Elijah can hear it loud in his heart. And not a single drop of rain.
Elijah hears It’s not working Elijah 6 times.....and not a single drop of rain.
But He kept sending his faith back out there, refusing to step out into unbelief.
He keeps his face down in the dirt. Down in the dark, dark dirt. In a fetal position.

Suffering:

Giving Birth to the Promise of the Lord

1 Peter 5:8–10 ESV
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
