MATTHEW 14:13-21
I. THE GUESTS
A. THEY ARE MANY
1. REPRESENTATIVE OF ALL THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY
2. REPRESENTATIVE OF ALL THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED GOD’S PROVISION
B. THEY ARE IN EARNEST
1. THEIR GREAT NEED DROVE THEM TO FOLLOW
2. THEIR GREAT DESIRE TO HEAR MORE FROM JESUS KEPT THEM
C. THEY ARE IN NEED
1. THEIR NEED OF SPIRITUAL BREAD
2. THEIR NEED OF PHYSICAL BREAD
II. THERE IS A TABLE
A. IT IS SPREAD IN THE WILDERNESS
1. THE DISCIPLES DID NOT YET UNDERSTAND THE RESOURCES OF THEIR LORD
2. THEIR ATTENTION WAS CENTERED ON THEIR OWN RESOURCES
B. AS IN THE PAST, GOD BECAME THEIR PROVISION
1. AS THEIR FOREFATHERS WERE FED MANNA IN THE WILDERNESS
2. AS THEIR FOREFATHERS WERE FED MEAT IN THE WILDERNESS
C. AS IN THE FUTURE JESUS WOULD BECOME THE BREAD OF LIFE
1. AS THE BREAD BROKEN FOR US
2. AS THE BREAD BROKEN FOR ALL
III. THE SERVICE AT THE TABLE
A. THE KINGS HEADS HIS TABLE
1. HE TAKES WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER
2. HE BLESSES WHAT WE BRING TO HIM
3. HE MULTIPLIES WHAT WE PLACE INTO HIS HANDS
B. THE DISCIPLES ARE THE SERVANTS
1. THEY ARE COMMISSIONED TO ORDER THE MULTITUDES INTO COMPANIES OF 50
2. THEY ARE COMMISSIONED TO GIVE THE LOAVES TO THE MULTITUDE
3. THE BREAD MULTIPLIES IN THE HANDS, AS THEY GIVE
4. THEY ARE INSTRUCTED TO “GATHER UP THE BROKEN PIECES THAT REMAIN THAT NONE BE LOST
a. There were “five loaves,” one for every thousand men
b. They gathered up twelve hand-baskets full, one for each Apostle, not to mention the fragments of fish
