PHILIPPIANS 2:5
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
I. SURRENDERED (LUKE 22:42 “NOT MY WILL, BUT THINE BE DONE.”)
A. NOT WHAT HE PREFERRED
B. NOT WHAT WAS COMFORTABLE
C. NOT WHAT WAS SAFE
D. NOT WHAT WAS PLEASING TO SELF
II. DEVOTEDNESS (LUKE 2:42 “WIST YE NOT THAT I MUST BE ABOUT MY FATHER’S BUSINESS?”)
A. FATHER’S BUSINESS WAS WHAT WAS IMPORTANT
B. HE WAS FULLY COMMITTED TO WHAT THE FATHER HAD SENT HIM TO DO
C. HIS FOOD WAS TO DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER (JOHN 4:34)
III. MEEKNESS (MATTHEW 11:29 “I AM MEEK AND LOWLY IN HEART”)
A. COMPLETE SELF CONTROL AT ALL TIMES
B. MADE HIMSELF OF NOT REPUTATION
C. TOOK ON THE FORM OF A SERVANT
IV. PRAYERFULNESS “CHRIST WAS THE BUSIEST MAN ON EARTH, BUT HE ALWAYS FOUND TIME TO PRAY, AND SOMETIME CONTINUED ALL NIGHT IN PRAYER.”
A. WITHOUT PRAYER, NOTHING OF VALUE IS ACCOMPLISHED
B. WITHOUT PRAYER, THERE IS NO VICTORY OVER SATAN
C. WITHOUT PRAYER GOD IS LIMITED IN HIS INVOLVEMENT IN OUR LIVES
V. SYMPATHY (JOHN 11:35 “JESUS WEPT”)
A. FEELING THE PAIN OF OTHERS
B. HURTING ALONGSIDE OF OTHERS
C. IDENTIFYING WITH THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS
VI. GRIEF AT THE UNBELIEF OF OTHERS (MARK 3:5 “…GRIEVED FOR THE HARDNESS OF THEIR HEARTS…”
A. GRIEVED BECAUSE THEIR UNBELIEF CLOSED THE DOOR FOR MIRACLES IN THEIR OWN LIVES
B. GRIEVED BECAUSE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE END RESULT OF THEIR UNBELIEF
C. GRIEVED BECAUSE THEIR UNBELIEF WAS A BARRIER FOR OTHERS
VII. COMPASSION (ACTS 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”)
A. THE PURPOSE OF HIS LIFE WAS TO SHOW KINDNESS AND TO OFFER HELP
B. HE LOOKED FOR OPPORTUNITIES
C. OUR MISSION AS INDIVIDUAL BELIEVERS
D. OUR MISSION COLLECTIVELY AS THE BODY OF CHRIST
