Spiritual Pattern part 10
Spiritual Pattern part 10
Then the LORD said to Moses,
"Make a bronze washbasin with a bronze stand. Place it between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water.
Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and feet there.
They must wash with water whenever they go into the Tabernacle to appear before the LORD and when they approach the altar to burn up their special gifts to the LORD—or they will die!
They must always wash their hands and feet, or they will die. This is a permanent law for Aaron and his descendants, to be observed from generation to generation."
INTRODUCTION
Good evening, Southpointe!! We are starting up again on the Spiritual Pattern. This Part 10, Tonight, we are going to talk about the Laver which stood between the altar and the door of the Tabernace.
And right in line with the mercy-seat and the altar of incense. This signifying that the privileges and blessing connected with the Laver, deal with the way we approach God.
In the altar we have Christ dying for our sins, in the laver the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
So It is laying out a direction here that the laver comes after the altar.
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
What we see here, is first, the Cross, then Pentecost; First, justified by His grace, then sanctified through the truth.
The laver was filled with water, The water is a type of the the Word.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
The laver was of the Spirit. The great truth here is the ministry of the Word is in power of the Holy Ghost.
The laver was of the Spirit. The great truth here is the ministry of the Word in power of the Holy Ghost.
So to try to pull this together, tonight this is showing us the step of approaching God and getting right with God.
we must be justified from all thing through the blood of His Cross. And if you know your sins are forgiven at the altar, then the truth will profit you.
So we started at the altar and our next step is the laver.
One of the first things that I want you to notice tonight is the origin of the Laver.
(NIV) They made the bronze basin and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
They made the bronze basin and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
There’s two ways in which we might see ourselves, in the of our own polished mirror, or in the light of the Lord as we stand before Him.
8 They made the bronze basin and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.
For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.
When, like these women, we stand at the door of the tabernacle, and see ourselves in the light of the presence of a holy and sin-hating God, we get so disgusted with ourselves that we don’t wish to look at our own proud persons.
So we will get rid of our looking-glass that we don’t have to look at the lack of the inward beauty.
The choice must be made by us that are saved, whether we will walk in the light of our own eyes or in the truth that has been revealed by the Holy Spirit.
The truth is when we look into the Word, the perfect law of liberty, we will see ourselves and we will see God.
The comparison is bad. We see how holy, righteous, just that God is and we see how unholy, unrighteous and unjust we are, we see how clean and pure and holy God is and we see how unclean and impure and unholy that we are.
The Word of God is a looking glass to show us our need of the laver of regeneration.
You see the chief end of the laver was to cleanse.
You see the chief end of the laver was to cleanse.
The polished brass of the laver helped to reveal the uncleanness. But the water (the Word of God) would cleanse it away.
If you will notice this is the work of the Spirit, to convince of sin, and to apply the cleansing Word.
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send Him to you.
And when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
The world's sin is that it refuses to believe in Me.
Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no more.
Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.
"There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can't bear it now.
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.
The ministry of the Spirit gives fitness for service. The priests had to wash there are they would die.
Unless we are keeping in constant touch with the Holy Laver, (the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives) our testimony for God will die, we will become as a dying branch.
Instead of of having power with God and men, we will be trodden under foot of men, like the salt that lost if favor.
"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
Listen to this:
"Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again?
Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!"
Now this is what I want you to look at also:
This is a very interesting fact:
You notice that we have talked about two difference vessels, (The brazen altar and the laver). They are separate from each other.
This is showing us, that the receiving of the Holy Spirit is to be a definite and personal experience.
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers.
"Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" he asked them. "No," they replied, "we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
So isn’t it not true that many have been saved at the altar and that all they want. They don’t press on to know more about the special ministry of the laver.
Yes, the Spirit of God dwell in them but there’s this overflowing of the Spirit of God.
My prayer is that we have a hungry for so much more than just salvation but the overflowing of the Spirit of God in our lives.
The ministry of the laver deals with after salvation, and looking into the Word of God and see God and see us and noticing the difference and see how unclean we are and how holy God is.
My prayer is that we have a hungry for so much more than just salvation but the overflowing of the Spirit of God in our lives.
But the hungry for God bring us to a place of obedient in the Word of God.
We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey Him."
