Contentment with Godliness is great gain.
Where are we in the book of 1 Timothy?

Content with your position in life

Slavery was a main part of life in the Roman Empire
Slavery was attacked from the inside out. It was not to destroyed by rebellion but by love.
Slavery was treated in many of Paul’s letters.

Content to receive Godly teaching

There is the danger of looking for special spiritual knowledge
Conceited (full of himself) and unable to understand
Discord and friction
Looking to gain something from your teaching.
We should be content with sound instruction and godly teaching
Watch out for those who are false teachers.
Spend time in the truth so you can recognize the false

Content with God’s provision

Realize that all that we have is a gift from God.
Riches can trap a person. Ruin and destruction are the end
The love of money is a root of many evils
Believers have wandered from the faith
Believers have suffered many griefs
Be content with God’s provisions.
