Praise to People
Positive:
Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
And let her own works praise her in the gates.
I Corin. 4:Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 For I know of nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.
1 Corin. 11:2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.
 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Negative:
 Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised as much as Absalom for his good looks. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
In Heshbon they have devised evil against her:
The New King James Version. (1982). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
No more praise of Moab. In Heshbon they have devised evil against her ‘Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.’ You also shall be cut down, O Madmen! The sword shall pursue you;
‘Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.’
You also shall be cut down, O Madmen!
The sword shall pursue you;
 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone.
 And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.
 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

1 Corin. 11:22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

Humans - Reasons for… Scripture treats praise as the natural response of believers to God’s person and actions.
Manser, M. H. (2009). Dictionary of Bible Themes: The Accessible and Comprehensive Tool for Topical Studies. London: Martin Manser.
Praise is commanded of God’s people
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!”
Praise is due to God Alone
 He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly. 17 I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD. 18 The LORD has chastened me severely, But He has not given me over to death. 19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD, Through which the righteous shall enter. 21 I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation
Is in the tents of the righteous;
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the LORD.
18 The LORD has chastened me severely,
But He has not given me over to death.
Praise is pleasing to God
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go through them,
And I will praise the LORD.
20 This is the gate of the LORD,
Through which the righteous shall enter.
I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving. 31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull, Which has horns and hooves.
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.
31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull,
Praise the LORD!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
Praise is an act of witness
21 I will praise You,
Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.
For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.
Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion!
Let them give glory to the LORD, And declare His praise in the coastlands.
And declare His praise in the coastlands.
Praise in response to God’s nature
His Greatness - Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
His Righteousness - praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.
His Faithfulness - I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. 10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, And Your truth unto the clouds.
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever;
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
Declare His deeds among the people.
I will sing to You among the nations.
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
But I will sing of Your power;
10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
The New King James Version. (1982). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;
For You have been my defense
The New King James Version. (1982). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
His Strength - But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. 17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.
Praise in response to God’s deeds
And refuge in the day of my trouble.
17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises;
For God is my defense,
Deliverance from enemies - Vindicate me, O God, And plead my cause against an ungodly nation; Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! 2 For You are the God of my strength; Why do You cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? 3 Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle. 4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And on the harp I will praise You, O God, my God.

Sending His Son, Jesus Christ - Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
