Welcome to the course on Church Evangelism. This course is design to train a person on the subject of How to invite others to your church.
Baptist churches are behind the time in Church Visitation. I do not agree with the beliefs of the Mormon church, or the Jehovah Witnesses, but they do have an effective Visitation Program.
They train there members in the methods of inviting others to there churches, and they are very good at it.
This course is designed to make you an effective witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Prayer is the most valuable tool we can use to invite a person(s) to your church.
Why?
Prayer will give you Someone (prospects) to invite to church.
Someone to Invite to your Church.
Prayer will give you Confidence.
Prayer will Help Control your Fear of Meeting New People.
Prayer will Open Opportunities when Needed.
Prayer will give you Openings to Witness.
Prayer will give you the Words to Speak.

This is a question that will be brought up when inviting someone to church.
One day when you invite a person to your church, they may ask you the question, “Why should I go to church? I believe in God, I can worship anywhere I please!”
Here are reasons we should attend a King James, Gospel Preaching Baptist Church.
To Worship God.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

These are just a few reasons a person should go church.

Why do we invite people to church?
What is the purpose?
First let me give you some reasons we don’t invite people to church.
I just don’t think about it.
I’m afraid I’ll be rejected.
Our churches music isn’t that good.
The preaching at our church isn’t strong.
Our church has too many problems going on.
Nobody ever challenged me to invite others.
I don’t know how to start a conversation about church.
It’s the pastor or preachers job to invite others to church.
Our church is already too crowed.
It’s too far for people to drive.
These are just excuses, a sign of laziness.
This is a sign of a very cold Christian.
Here are reasons for us to invite others to church.
It is commanded of us to invite people to church and witness to them.
Matthew 28:
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Church Growth.
You can’t have church growth without New Members.
Every person you speak to is A POTENTIAL NEW CHURCH MEMBER.
Inviting someone to church will usher you into a spiritual adventure.
People are more likely to come if you will invite them to your church.
It will give the people you invite the opportunity to make informed decision about Jesus, the church, and eternity.
It glorifies God.
It will help you see your church in a whole new light, and you can share what you observed to help others.
This is a sign of a Hot Christian, one who is on fire for God.

The most important thing about inviting others to your church is you have to be sold on it yourself.

Say your in the market for a new car. You go shopping for it at a local dealership. A good salesman will come out and introduce himself to you, he will be knowledgeable, and sold on the product he is trying to sale (Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet, etc.)
He will the know the ends and out of that product; the MPG, braking system, rim size, the whole package.
He going to get you excited about that car, that you will want to purchase it. That salesman is sold on his product, and in turn he gets you sold on it as well.
You have to be sold on every aspect of your church to be successful in inviting others to your church.
You have to be sold on Jesus Christ.
You have to know Him personally to share Him to others.
You need to be able to tell others what Jesus has done for you.
You can’t do that if you do not know Him as your personal savior.
You can not be sold on Jesus is you do not know Him yourself.
You have to be sold on your church.
You have to love your church to be excited about your church.
You have to attend regularly.
Why would you invite others to your church if you don’t attend regularly?
You have to be sold on your Pastor.
You should love, trust, and respect your pastor.
If you don’t like the way your pastor preaches.
If you don’t trust what your pastor preaches is from the Word of God.
Then your not sold on your pastor, and it will be hard to get someone to visit your church.
You have to be sold on your fellow members of your church.
We should respect, and cherish our fellow members of our church, lift one another up.
If you don’t trust, dislike, or avoid your fellow church members, your not sold on them.
How can you invite someone to your church and get them excited about your church, If your not excited and sold on your church yourself?
The answer is you CAN’T.
You must be sold yourself.

It is very important that you be able to give someone at least five reasons (more is better) why you love your church.
You can’t be sold on your church without knowing why you attend your church.
You will be asked this question when you invite someone to your church.
Examples:
We have a welcoming church.
Why do you say it’s welcoming?
We use the King James Bible.
Why is that so, important?
Our church is family oriented?
How is it family oriented?
We have a great pastor.
What’s so great about him?
We offer a lot of ministries.
What about your ministries?
You can come as you are.
What do you mean by come as you are?
We have to be ready to further explain ourselves.
I have one of my new converts to invite a person to church a few months ago.
She told that person that she wanted him to come to church with her.
The person she invited asked the question, “who’s church is it?”
She respond by saying, “It’s Michael Perdue’s church.”
The person responded, I only go to God’s church.
This is why I came up with this course, to train our member on the proper way to invite people to church.
The correct response should have been, “It’s God’s church and the pastor is Michael Perdue.”
How we answer people makes all the differences in the world.
VI. DEFINITIONS YOU NEED TO KNOW

It surprised me when I gave these definitions to my Wednesday Night Bible Study Class on how many people did not know them.
These definitions are important to understand and to be able to explain to to others when needed.
If possible you need to memorize these definitions, some of these definitions are basic Biblical beliefs.
The Gospel: The Death, Burial, and the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace: The is the unmerited favor of God’s goodness towards those who have no claim on, nor reason to expect, divine favor.
Grace comes to us in a form of a gift.
The gift was God’s Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Faith: The substance of the things hope for, the evidence of things not seen.
An example of faith is found in the book of
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

Redemption: The action of saving or being saved from sin.
Repent:To feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s sin(s) or wrongdoing, and turns away from it.
Salvation: Preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, loss, or hell.
Born-Again: Born from above, a spiritual transformation.
An example of the explanation of being Born-Again is found in the book of .

Eternal Security: Once saved always saved, You can never lose your Salvation.
Use these Scripture verse to back this up.
John 10:27-
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

The Romans Road to Salvation: A method used in witnessing to show someone how to be saved.
This is still the most poplar way to lead someone to the Lord, and should be memorized.
You will use these Scriptures throughout your ministry.
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The goal is to memorize these verses.
If you can not memorize these verses, mark them in your Bible.
They are very useful in witnessing and you will have to use them one day.
Doctrine: The beliefs or body of beliefs or body of instructions, principles or positions, as essence of teachings in a given branch of knowledge or in a belief system.
Every Church Denomination, even Cults have has a Doctrine Statement.

Those are just a few denomination and cults, but they all have Doctrine Statement of Faith.
Prospects: A person regarded as likely to be a potential customer, client, or church member.
Any person you talk to is a prospect, a potential new church member.
All you have to do is open your mouth and invite them.
Rebuttal: a proof you rebut.
Example: “The church will catch on fire if I go to your church!”
The Rebuttal: “We are safe, we have fire extinguishers, and the fire department is only a block away.”
We have to learn to stop the silly stuff people say, to get the the important stuff like, salvation, and eternity.
Ice-Breakers: A thing that serves to relieve, inhibitions, or tension between people, or start a conversation.
Example: You are at a gas station filling your car up, the person across you is doing the same thing. I would start off saying, “ Man can you belief these gas prices?” if the person responds, I just broke the ice and now I can start a formal conversation.
Lead-Ins: an introduction or preamble which allows one to move smoothly onto the next part of something.
Example: You can use lead-ins when you are talking about the Lord to find out if a person has been born again or not. I would say something like this, “Do you remember a time when you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior?”
When meeting and inviting people to your church, you will have to use these Definition, and Scripture Verses and be able to explain it to them when asked.
Leads: Are referrals from others or generated information of potential prospects.
Follow-up: A continuation or repetition of something that has already been started or done.

The most important part of finding a new church, and to make sure it’s the right church for my family is looking at that churches Doctrine of Faith Statement.
When I look for a new church I always ask to see their Doctrine of Faith Statement, to make sure what that church believes.
This statement will tell you what a church believes.
It will tell you what Bible that church recognize. (King James, EVS, NIV, Ect.)
It will tell you what church ordinances they observe and who is allowed to partake of it.

It is very important that every church member to know what the church believes before inviting anyone to your services.
You might be asked a question about your churches beliefs, in a conversation when inviting others to your church.
What does your church believe?
What Bible does your church recognize and use?
What are the ordinances does your church observe?
Can I part take of the Lord’s Supper at your church if I’m not a member?

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that there are two ordinances of the local church - Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe baptism to be the symbolic act of the saved believer being immersed in water. The Lord’s Supper being observed by the church by taking bread and grape juice as a memorial of the Lord’s death and in expectation of His return. The membership of Friendship Baptist Church partakes of the Lord’s Supper once a year. Easter Sunday. Friendship Baptist Church has Close Communion. Which mean we allow others of like faith that is visiting with us to partake of the Lord’s Supper. The meaning of like faith is to have the same doctrinal beliefs as Friendship Baptist Church. We recognize the following Baptist Churches have the same basic doctrinal stance.

This is the basic beliefs of Friendship Baptist Church.
If you know and understand what your church believes.
It will help you in your Christian life.
It will help you when you invite others to your church.
It will help you when you witness to others about Jesus Christ.

Some churches has an organized Visitation Program, others do not.
You will always come across people who belong to a different denomination, and sometime a member of a cult.
Church growth depends on new members, if you do not invite new people to your church the church will one day die.
I believe that it is important that you know some of there basic beliefs of other denominations when inviting people to your church.
A Visitation Program is a vital part of church growth.

Here are a few methods of an Organized Visitation Program:
Catholic Church:
Select a permanent day for your visitation. (Tuesday night, Thursday night, or Saturday morning are best)
Founder and Date: Catholics consider Jesus’ disciple Peter to be the first pope; Gregory the Great (pope, AD 540-604) was a key figure in the pope’s office. at the time, the pope came to be viewed as ruling over the whole church.
Tuesday and Thursday Nights are best when using Leads from the church.
Scripture: The Scripture teach without error the truth needed for our salvation. Scripture must be interpreted within the tradition of the church. The canon includes 46 books for the Old Testament including deuterocanonical books (the Apocrypha) and 27 books for the New Testament.
Church leads will come from first time visitor cards that get filled out during church services.
God: The one Creator and the Lord of all, existing eternally as the Trinity. (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)
This is called a follow up visit and will generate a second, third visit from your guest, and possible a new member.
Jesus: The eternal Son incarnate, fully God and fully man, conceived and born of the virgin Mary, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, and will come again in glory to judge us all.
Salvation: Christ died as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins; God by His grace infuses a supernatural gift of faith in Christ in those who are baptized, which is maintained by doing works of love and receiving Penance and the Eucharist.
Saturday Morning are best for door to door visits, and also church lead visits.
I found that 10:30 am works best.
Afterlife: The souls of the faithful go to heaven either immediately or if imperfectly purified in this life, after purgatory. The soul of the wicked at death are immediately consigned to eternal punishment in hell.
This method is safer because it is light outside.
Safety Rules for Door to Door Visitation.
Plan out your visiting area ahead of time and let others from your church know where your going.
Sacraments: Baptism removes original sin (usually in infants). In the Eucharist, the substances (but not the properties) of bread and wine are changed into Jesus’ body and blood. (transubstantiation).
Use the rule of two when going door to door. (Never go by yourself)
Never enter a house of an unknown person. (Keep it at the Door)
Other Beliefs and Practices: Mary was conceived by her mother immaculately (free of original sin). Remained a virgin perpetually, and was assumed bodily into heaven. She is the Mother of the Church and is considered an object of devotion and veneration (a show of honor thats stop short of worship).
Always have a cell phone available with 911 preprogramed in your phone.
It’s a good idea to always have a member of the opposite sex with you when going door to door. (husband and wife, male member with two female members, never two male members with one female member unless one of them are a married couple). Your testimony is everything.

You simply call people on the phone, this method is not the best, because people don’t like any type of sales calls and many consider this a sales call.

Afterlife: The souls of believers upon dying go immediately to be with Christ, and at Christ return, their bodies are raised to immortal eternal life. The souls of the wicked begin suffering immediately in hell.
I personally use this method weekly and invite hundreds of people a week to church.
Sacraments: Baptism is necessary for salvation; in it both adults and infants are given God’s grace. The Lord’s Supper remains truly bread and wine, but also becomes truly Jesus’ body and blood (consubstantiation).

Other Beliefs and Practices: The church liturgy is similar to the Episcopal. Conservative Lutherans generally affirm that God chooses who will be saved before they believe. In 2009 the ELCA open the ministry to gay and lesbian pastors in committed relationships.
Presbyterian Church:
When you approach people these days to invite them to your church, you have to be careful and follow some safety rules.
Never approach people from the rear, or from the sides.

How are you today, “I’m pastor Michael Perdue of Friendship Baptist Church” and introduce your partner or partners. (wait for a response)
Usually you will get their name; Bill, mike, James, Jane, Julie, ect. with their last name.
Always respond politely, and respectful; If they give you their last name address them “Mr. or Mrs Glover”, or if they just give you their first name address them as “Mr. Bill or Ms. Julie” unless told by them to address them by another name; “Bill or Julie”.
Then say, “ We are on visitation and would love to have you visit our church this Sunday!”
