I Have Value - The Value of Loyalty

The Background
Crazy story
Absalom’s was King David’s son.
Absalom was at a disconnect with his Father over a Family matter.
2 Samuel 14:
2 Samuel 14:25 ESV
Now in all Israel there was no one so much to be praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
Absalom was a Son of the King but wanted the Kingdom before it was his time!
He had the wrong motives and became manipulative!
Point #1 Watch People’s Motives
2 Samuel 14
2 Samuel 15:2–4 ESV
And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way of the gate. And when any man had a dispute to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him and say, “From what city are you?” And when he said, “Your servant is of such and such a tribe in Israel,” Absalom would say to him, “See, your claims are good and right, but there is no man designated by the king to hear you.” Then Absalom would say, “Oh that I were judge in the land! Then every man with a dispute or cause might come to me, and I would give him justice.”
Watch people who talks about what they would do if they were the leader.
Some people will tear down people and systems to move their agenda forward.
Point #2 Affection or Manipulation
2 Samuel 15:5 ESV
And whenever a man came near to pay homage to him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
The Shift
2 Samuel 15
2 Samuel 15:6 ESV
Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
“So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Isreal”
Think about this! This is for all in leadership.
Crazy things is the opposition is coming from David’s family.
For four years Absalom was undermining his Father.
Absalom begin to build and army and developing his team of people to overthrow his father.
2 Samuel 15:
2 Samuel 15:13–15 ESV
And a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.” Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom. Go quickly, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down ruin on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.” And the king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king decides.”
David began to regroup and create a strategy
As the people was going out that was following David, there was one who stood out to David.
Point #3 Who Are You and Why Are You Here?
2 Samuel 15:
2 Samuel 15:19 ESV
Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why do you also go with us? Go back and stay with the king, for you are a foreigner and also an exile from your home.
“For you are a foreigner and also and exile”
Foreigner: alien, i.e., pertaining to that which is not in the same clan, land area or religion as the speaker and so not in close association or limited association.
foreign, alien, i.e., pertaining to that which is not in the same clan, land area or religion as the speaker and so not in close association or limited association
Exile: a person who is expelled from home or country by an authority and dwells in a foreign land.
exile (person) n. — a person who is expelled from home or country by an authority and dwells in a foreign land.

Life will cause you to be harsh and create walls!
When you have been hurt in life, you view everyone with a different filter.
A powerful statement - Go back and stay with the King. He was looking at his race and his location!
Don’t tell me we haven’t been there before…
“Why do you also go with us?”
Leadership in every area of life can cause you to ask this question about everyone you meet and work with!
Point #4 My Wall Doesn’t Mean I Don’t Like You!
2 Samuel 15:20 ESV
You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us, since I go I know not where? Go back and take your brothers with you, and may the Lord show steadfast love and faithfulness to you.”
“You came only Yesterday”
Hey you seem like a good person but I just don’t have to be hurt again.
I’m trying to figure things out for myself
May the Lord bless and God be with you.
My wall doesn’t mean I don’t like you but I just don’t trust people.
Point #5 Loyalty Is What We All Need
2 Samuel 15:21 ESV
But Ittai answered the king, “As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be.”
Look at his response:
“As the Lord Lives” - First my commitment is to God. My loyalty is to God.
“As my lord the king lives” - Being loyal to someone has to be in the correct context. Capital L vs Lower case L
A person is not our God but I believe in what God has put into that person and the value that they bring.
Wherever my Lord the King shall be:
Whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be.
2 Samuel 15:22 ESV
And David said to Ittai, “Go then, pass on.” So Ittai the Gittite passed on with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.
Remember this sometimes you will be a David and Sometimes you will be an Ittai
We have to learn how to let people in (Spirit of Discernment)
We have to learn how to have loyalty as Value that we bring to everyone we meet.
We all need an Ittai in our Life!
Who’s Ittai are you?
