6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 14:5
John 14:
I. The Way to Christ
I. The Way to Christ
John 14:
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
John
In responce to Thomouses question Jesues answered that he was the way this is the sixth of the seven I am statements
When We come to Jesues Christ we come to the one in whoom the truth about the father is found.
Jesues is the way to the father because He is the life.
John speks about Christ being life mutiple times in his gospel
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Because Jesues is one with the father and embodied the truth and life of the father. He could say that “if you really know me you would know my father as well.
Explain the trinity
Christ is saying that he and the father are one and by knowing him you know the father.
The way-the person and work of Jesues serves as our pathway to God
The Truth-in Jewish tradditions there were many beliefs and the average jewish man was unsure of what God’s will was this is What Jesues came to do
Life-Jesues was the source of power for believers
Except through me
Salvation does not come through Christian rules, the oT, Law , sacrifices or religious practice it comes through Christ himself.
Y
Young person if you are trusting in anything other than Christ tonight for your salvation you are trusting in the wong thing.
any faith that leads you short of the cross is a faith that will land you short of heaven
Turn to the cross today
Make the main thing the main thing!
The main thing is Jesues Christ
The main thing is Jesues Christ
II. Jesus and the father are on (V.8-11)
II. Jesus and the father are on (V.8-11)
Philip asked Christ to Show them the father so that by seeing him they could know .
Christ was disapointed by this and asked “Don’t you know me Phiip even as I have been with you for such a long time?
Dispite the fact the Jesues had lived among the diciples for a long time they still did not know who he relly was so he explained further
“Anyone who has seen me has seen my father.”
Jesues and the father are one.
notice what he says in verse 11
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
The father is in Christ he says to believe me or if that is not enough for you beleive it what I have done
Christ’s signs and miricles were enough to demenstrate who he was, the son of God sent to suffer and die for us. so that we may have a restored relationship with our God free from the bodnage of sin.
What Christ is saying is, Have you not seen everything I have done and yet you still do not believe
All that information today exists in this book
the inspired, inflible, inerent word of God which is without error pefect and has completly come true. We must trust in its truth
III. The Father and Jesues Work together to fulfil Jesues’ Puropse (v. 12-14)
III. The Father and Jesues Work together to fulfil Jesues’ Puropse (v. 12-14)
Christ has urged his diciples to Belive on him upon the basis of what he has done. He then made an amazing statemnt
“I tell you the truth anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing he will do even grater things than thees because I am going to the father.
First we must know what Jesues workes were
evangelizing the semaritin Woman
healing the lame man
healing the man born blind
All his mirculs
his teaching
his entire ministery
Jesues empowerd the diciples to do many of the works and signes he did
Note: the sign gifts have ceased
by his statement greater The diciples would do more works than he ever did.
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
Whatever you ask in my name
this implies that the credit for the work is given to the person and work of Christ not he man the mircles must be given for the puropse of leading others to belive.
This is not to mean that Whatever we ask will be done but that if in is in the will of God it will be done
