Gods Love
God’s love reaches out and grabs us at Calvary—and there is enough grace at Calvary to cover every single person who has ever lived, is living now, or will ever live. Jesus died for everyone.
Puritan writer Richard Baxter used to say, “If God had said there was mercy for Richard Baxter, I am so vile a sinner that I would have thought He meant some other Richard Baxter. When He said ‘whosoever’ (in John 3:16), I know that includes me, the worst of all the Richard Baxters there ever was.”
Now, since Jesus loved us with such a deliberate, purposeful love, shouldn’t we love with that same kind of love? In terms of loving others with Jesus’ love, His example means noticing, discovering, and meeting people’s needs. In terms of loving God, Jesus’ example means obeying Him. Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. . . .If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. . . . He who does not love Me does not keep My word” (John 14:15, 23, 24).
What sin, if any, are you tolerating in your life? What unconfessed habit has its hold-on you? Learn to paint over people’s sins with the forgiving brush of Calvary. Obey Jesus fully and serve others purposefully.
