We are continuing our study of being the light of the world. Christ came as the light of the world. In Christ, Christians have been transformed by Christ's blood and word into children of light in the kingdom of light. If we are children of light, then we need to live like the source of that light, Christ.
Last week: The Source and Transformation of Light (John 8:12; Ephesians 5:8-14).
But what does it actually mean to be light in Christ? Is it just living a moral life, not trying to get in anyone’s way? Or is it more about the One whose light we shine?
Shine The Light (Matthew 5:14-16)
v. 14 - Design - You are intended to shine.
v. 15 - Demand - The world needs you to shine.
v. 16 - Doxology - Our life should be a song of praise.
Be The Light (Matthew 5:1-12)
God’s Plan:
-Be like God (Ephesians 5:1-2).
-Be children of the kingdom (Matthew 5:1-12): Poor in Spirit; Those who Mourn; Meek; Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness; Merciful; Pure in Heart; Peacemakers; Persecuted for Righteousness’ Sake.
Our Produce:
-Children of the light who walk after the spirit produce goodness, righteousness, and truth wherever they go (Ephesians 5:8-9).
Conclusion
Shine and be the light in Christ that God has created you to be.
Shine the light in every room in which you find yourself, no matter the consequence (1 Peter 3:13-17).
