Control is an enticement that’s all around us. Technology would have us believe we can control anything and everything with a simple app or tap. It fulfils our fantasy of being in control of things when we clearly are not. So, when we can’t control the kids, at least we can control the TV. When we can’t control the weather, at least we can control the internet. When we can’t control our thoughts, at least we can control the credit card. Or can we? So often, our control is an illusion – a pretence that we are in control when we are not. And the control that we can have (self-discipline and stewardship), we quickly ignore. So, what’s the solution? An acknowledgement and submission to God’s control. When we yield to that, we can both accept what’s out of our control and better control the things we can.
