Introduction:
Birthdays are always a great celebration. They differ from funerals because they celebrate life. People are usually happy and celebrating and having a good time at birthday parties.....unless there is a clown involved! Nobody really likes a clown!
Today, we are here at Bethlehem Baptist Church to celebrate a birthday. Homecoming is about celebrating the birthday of the church. Last week Bethlehem celebrated 198 years of being a church. That is a lot of life to celebrate and God is just getting started with Bethlehem!
This morning, we are also going to look at another birthday celebration. The celebration of the birthday of the first church in the Bible, the church at Jerusalem. Let’s take a look at what happened.

Conclusion:
While we are here today to celebrate the birthday of Bethlehem and we’ve just seen the birthday of the New Testament Church, it can also be a spiritual birthday for you. The message that Peter preached at Pentecost was not a seeker sensitive message. It wasn’t a feel good type of message. But we don’t need to be coddled when we are lost and at war with God. We need to be warned.
Peter said, “this Jesus that God sent, YOU crucified!” You killed the one that came to give His life for your sins. You are guilty of murder! The truth is, while we may not have laid a hand on Jesus, our sin also killed Jesus. He was delivered over to death according to God’s divine plan to save us from our sins. It was necessary for a sacrifice to be made to cleanse us of our sin. It has to be either us or Christ.
Jesus offers to you today the free gift of eternal life in His blood that was shed for you. If you will "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, you will receive the gift oft he Holy Spirit.” So brothers and sisters, what keeps you from receiving new life today?
