Responding to God's Love
Rejoice in Him (vs 1, 4)

sixty percent of the verses in the Song of Solomon are words that are spoken between these lovers. And as you read it, it is obvious that they miss the sound of the other’s voice when they are separated. And they praise the other’s speech. And they are so free. One is free to give without embarrassment. The other is free to receive without resentment.

A. THE PROBING
Song of Solomon 6:1–3
The chapter begins by the ladies of Jerusalem probing the Shulamite about Solomon’s location.
1. The Inquiry in the Probing (Song of Solomon 6:1)
“Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is they beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee” (Song of Solomon 6:1). The daughters of Jerusalem are speaking; they had been charged to assist in the seeking of the departed lover (Song of Solomon 5:8). Evidently they could not find him so inquire again if the Shulamite knows his whereabouts.
• The asking. “Whither is thy beloved gone?” His location is a puzzle they wish to solve.
• The accolades. “Thy beloved … thou fairest among women.” The inquiry honors the sought and the seeker.
• The assisting. “We … seek him with thee.” The inquiry was to help them help the Shulamite.
2. The Informing of the Probing (Song of Solomon 6:2, 3)
“My beloved is gone down into his garden … I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” (Song of Solomon 6:2, 3). The Shulamite answers the inquiry.
• His location. “My beloved is gone down into his garden” (Song of Solomon 6:2). She now knows where he is at.
• His lover. “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” (Song of Solomon 6:3). Her confidence of their relationship is spoken. The redeemed can know they are saved (1 John 5:13), and it is not arrogance to say you know.
