The voices we listen to have a profound effect on how we see ourselves and God's world and on the success or failure of our Christian lives (vs. 1- 3).
The Lord is very serious about demanding that we disregard false voices, those that counsel idolatry and unfaithfulness to His Commandments (vss. 3, 5).
He cherishes His relationship with us and therefore gives us six directives (verbs) concerning how we are to listen to Him (vs. 4).
He has a very specific purpose in allowing false voices in the world (vss. 3b and 5).
Jesus, the Good Shepherd, bases our relationship with Him wholly on our hearing His voice and following Him (John 10: 3, 4, 27, 28).
