John was in a trance - on the Lord’s day - not a dream
I) The Lord’s Voice
I) The Lord’s Voice
The trumpeting voice of Christ
That of authority/ commanding
Christ demands we listen to Him
Today the same way John did then!
Jesus proclaims again that He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of everything.
Revelation is to build us up, not scare us to death. That’s why Christ tells us about it.
II) The Lord among the Lampstands
II) The Lord among the Lampstands
the candlesticks represent the Church
The light they give off represent Christ
He is the only true light in the world.
it is the job of the church to hold Him out for all the world to see.
However, many churches today hide Him in a closet
Unless Christ is in the midst of the church
there will be no light
For Christ to be in the Midst of the church
Christ has to be the very focal point of the church!
(NKJV)
2 The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
(NKJV)
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
III) The Lord’s Appearance
III) The Lord’s Appearance
Awesome and frightening
He was so Majestic - John had to find earthly things to compare
Robe -
His robe represents the:
Prophet - Robe itself
Priest - Golden sash
Covers the heart
Christ holds us and the church close
King - His white hair
Like wool and snow
Wears it like a crown
representing his purity and sinlessness
(NKJV)
9 “I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire;
c. Eyes
a. Flames of fire
piercing and penetrating power
He sees everything
we cannot hide from Him
He can see into our hearts
He knows what problems the church faces today
He WILL conquer those who hurt His church
(NKJV)
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
a. Feet like fine brass
this symbolizes strength and perserverance
(NKJV)
7 How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
a. Voice of sounding water
a. His voice sends us His great message
Salvation
hope
joy
kindness
comfort
and rest
b. It also is the voice
i. judges
ii. and convicts
He had seven stars in His hand
The 7 stars represent His messengers
In this case His messengers are his pastors or preachers
His hand hold the preacher firmly
(NKJV)
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
Two edged Sword
That is the Word of God
it is the truth
and the truth can cut both ways
it can penetrate the soul
(NKJV)
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
IV) The Lord’s Calming Presence
IV) The Lord’s Calming Presence
He reassures us that He is in command
no matter what we see or think
He tells John not to fear
He tells us the same thing
He will be with us when we are born and when we die
He tells us to be reassured that He
lived
died
and lives again!
He assures us that:
He has the keys to death and hell
(NKJV)
10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
