Intro: Possession is nine tenth of the law as the saying goes to show one owns property or is in control. The law will hold you accountable if you have something in your possession if illegally. Possession matters, but original ownership matters as well. You do not lose what you do not have. Everything belongs to the Lord. Every breath you take belongs to the Lord.
But don’t take my word for it here is a word from our sponsor. This message is brought to you by God from his Holy Word known as the Holy Bible, God’s holy word:
Psalm 50:11–12 NLT
11 I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it.
Leviticus 25:23 NLT
23 “The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me. You are only foreigners and tenant farmers working for me.

Psalm 24:1 NLT
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.
Psalm
Haggai 2:8 NLT
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
1 Chronicles 29:11–12 NLT
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12 Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.
1 Chronicles 29:11-12
1 Chronicles 29:14–16 NLT
14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! 15 We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. 16 “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you!
1 Chronicles 29:

God Owns everything

Let me express that God’s love for us is he gave us the earth. Genesis chronicles how God gave man the earth to rule over. Sin made ruling the earth more complicated for man because of God’s divine judgment. However the point still remains that God gave us everything we have in this word.

Background in this text:

King David is giving the kingdom over to his Son.
God chose Solomon to succeed David.
1 Chronicles 28:1 NLT
1 David summoned all the officials of Israel to Jerusalem—the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of the army divisions, the other generals and captains, the overseers of the royal property and livestock, the palace officials, the mighty men, and all the other brave warriors in the kingdom.
1 Chronicles 29:1 NLT
1 Then King David turned to the entire assembly and said, “My son Solomon, whom God has clearly chosen as the next king of Israel, is still young and inexperienced. The work ahead of him is enormous, for the Temple he will build is not for mere mortals—it is for the Lord God himself!
1 Chronicles 29:1
b. David was rejected to build the temple.
1 Chronicles 29:
1 Chronicles 29:3 NLT
3 “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple.
1 Chronicles 29:2 NLT
2 Using every resource at my command, I have gathered as much as I could for building the Temple of my God. Now there is enough gold, silver, bronze, iron, and wood, as well as great quantities of onyx, other precious stones, costly jewels, and all kinds of fine stone and marble.
1 Chronicles 28:3
1 Chronicles 28:3 NLT
3 but God said to me, ‘You must not build a Temple to honor my name, for you are a warrior and have shed much blood.’
2. King David accepted God’s judgment and still look to honor God anyway.
a. David is honor by the Lord’s favor toward his family and his descendants.
b. He blesses the Lord for this great opportunity to leave a inheritance for Solomon.
1 Chronicles 28:4
1 Chronicles 28:4–7 NLT
4 “Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, has chosen me from among all my father’s family to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen the tribe of Judah to rule, and from among the families of Judah he chose my father’s family. And from among my father’s sons the Lord was pleased to make me king over all Israel. 5 And from among my sons—for the Lord has given me many—he chose Solomon to succeed me on the throne of Israel and to rule over the Lord’s kingdom. 6 He said to me, ‘Your son Solomon will build my Temple and its courtyards, for I have chosen him as my son, and I will be his father. 7 And if he continues to obey my commands and regulations as he does now, I will make his kingdom last forever.’

King David show us how we are to be all in.

We Give

We Give To God what is his.

David knows all that he has comes from the Lord. He is blessed by God and is willing to give more than above what is needed to bless the temple of the Lord. David knows Solomon is still young and not fully ready to lead but wants to leave him a blessing to do the work of the Lord.
1 Chronicles 29:
David gave from all he had toward the temple.
He gave from his private treasure of gold and silver (v.3).
He gave from the power of his position as king.
King David lead by example.
1 Chronicles 29:5 NLT
5 and for the other gold and silver work to be done by the craftsmen. Now then, who will follow my example and give offerings to the Lord today?”
1 Chronicles 29:
The people followed his lead as seen in .

Rejoice to Give God.

1 Chronicles 29:9 NLT
9 The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord, and King David was filled with joy.
Give freely to God and rejoice.
God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
2 Cor

Giving leads to worship.

1 Chronicles 29:10–12 NLT
10 Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly: “O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever!
1 Chron 29:1

Worship God for the blessing to give.

1 Chronicles 29:13–15 NLT
13 “O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!
1 Chronicles 29:13-
We can not give God what he has not already given us.
Everything belongs to the Lord.

Know you belong to the Lord and this life is fleeting.

We are here only a moment but have a chance to bless generations.
This is not our home.
The land belongs to the Lord.
We belong to the Lord.
The Lord blesses us to be a blessing to others.

David wants to be a blessing to the next generation.

1 Chronicles
1 Chronicles 29:16 NLT
16 “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you!
We need to leave a good inheritance for the next generation.
God has blessed us in different ways to be a blessing to the next generation.
